View Full Version : How to clear the K24 Power Steering in an EM1/EK OEM Bonnet??

As the title says,

Apart from cutting the bonnet frame support,

has anyone done this and does the PS Pulley/Body clear the OEM bonnet?

Engine: K24
Chassis: EM1/EK

what has people done to rectify the clearance issues? smaller pulley? cutting frame? etc etc?

any ideas or someone has this working in their car?

thanks.

Its called bonnet support frame i believe.. And not spider web.. Lol hehe :p

Yeh some cutting is required even with a k20 ... (my mate has told me)

But what i wanna knw if k24 will clear it or how much fabrication is required or what retro parts, fittings can be done.

not sure, it was just a suggestion. if it was a few mm, using the washers is just an easier way than doing any cutting to the bonnet.

if a 24 block does sit higher than a few mm and you want to keep ur OEM bonnet u may be forced to cut the bonnet webbing.

Yeh.. Looks like from the net that most ppl are cutting the frame.. Which is fine to me,

But others are saying that even cuttng it will hit the actual bonnet surface alredy..

I need a better clarfication frm someone who has done this etc etc

I could, and the furthest i would go is cutting off the frame/webbing..

Im not going to bulge a lump on the bonnet .. Lol dats shit heheh

The other end (surface) will have a bulge on it lol..

Haah dat would be ghetto hehe

oh ok, i read egk1 moves engine bit more to the back, giving bit more room.
i assume by positioning engine bit more back, will also give bit more bonnet room.

Changing to the EG/DC subframe is NOT required. It is very possible to have the swap running
and working with the stock EK subframe. However, because it requires the engine to sit so far
forward, the space in front of the engine is reduced, and it requires the use of longer axles.
The benefits of the EG/DC subframe are worth the effort. You will be able to run longer intake
manifolds, such as the RBC, RRC, ect. The axles and engine are moved towards the firewall
for better placement and weight distribution.
The EG/DC subframe swap requires the following parts:
• EG/DC subframe
• EG/DC front lower control arms
• EG/DC front compliance arms & bushings
• EG/DC steering rack (manual or power, depending on preference)
• Steering rack u-joint (which joint used depends on the model of car and if power steering was standard]
• EG/DC subframe bolts! (This is very important as the EK uses different bolts and they will not work!)

No PS??

Could i leave abit of PS fluid inside the hoses to the steering rack and block it off? This way its still lubricated.. Lol

Looked into that bud..

Costs more than the eg/dc steering rack, subframe, lcas..

Expensive ass lol

a k swap isnt a k swap unless you use eg subframe.
if you want clearance. use the ekk2 mounts and eg subframe.

Got the same set up in my car running ekk2 mounts dc2r subframe with k24 and there isn't any problems with abs, might have to modify the headers to clear the abs depending on the headers you run, but in can be done. The power steering pump will just clear the surface material of the bonnet with the frame guttered but will touch on hard launches.

The skunk2 kswap headers clear the abs with no mods

Do i need to change over the steering rack? Or just the subframe & lcas?

Lower the engine mounts and put spacers in between. Make sure your bolts are nice and long.

I used a complete dc2r sub frame with rack and control arms.

If you want to get it engineered you would have to exhaust wrap the headers or make a heat shield for the abs unit. Heat wrapping the headers would be probably be an easier option.
