hello there,

my hunt for an affordable s2k still continues
does anyone know why that this one is at a low price?

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/honda-s2000-1999-11948817?cr=0&distance=25&vertical=Car&eapi=2&page=1&sort=LastUpdate&__N=1216%201247%201252%201282%204294965322%2042949 64924&silo=Stock&Range=Price:Min,20000~1

from my observation.. the front bumper doesnt align with the bonnet. theres an obvious "gap" or is it just me?

this looks good but any car that is sold unregistered does raise a few concerns.

^Was a repaired write off when it was sold in NSW and apparently the km's haven't changed since it was last up for sale back then.

The red one has ap2 rear bumper and updated glass roof. Pretty nice features but probs over sh!tbox

I've seen that red one in person an it's shocking. The headlight on the passenger side sits in about 5-10mm like the tabs are broken and the 2 different sets of rims are a laugh too. It sold on eBay about a year ago for pretty cheap

i think the DIY red calipers and the repainted rims were a turn off as well..

So i guess he has a choice out of the two vic ones..

if anyone else has some comment would be much appreciated :)

Blue S2000's look awesome! I recently bought a Bermuda Blue 2007 S2000 with 11,200 kms on the clock and clean in the sun it looks amazing! However i might have to end-up selling it, but i'll see how things go. Monte Carlo Blue is also nice, a bit dark but still good. Apex blue is too bright IMO.

Went to check out a friend’s 2001 S2000 he might be selling, took it for a drive and yes it screams, and goes hard I like it. Only issue was the rear plastic could not see out of it literally. Wants 23 for it. I’m still thinking. Has anyone in WA done the roof replacement. I know where to get it at Topline. But would like some local that has actually done it and can recommend the workshop

There's a DIY on the internet somewhere. INvolves gutting your whole interior BUT IIRC, it wasn't too specialised

You won't have any regrets buying an S over a TYPE R. (Unless its an NSX-R that is). Although its probably not so practical if the S is to be the only car in your household. Not much space for luggage.

Do not feel so bad. The car had been resprayed black, it was originally yellow. The front right suspension had been repaired. It had that annoying common AP1 clutch buzz problem. The fuel gauge did not give an accurate reading and the rear bar was slightly cracked. But apart from that, it was a pretty good car and the respray was done quite well.

This car:
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/honda-s2000-2000-12288526?cr=16&eapi=2&Page=2&silo=Stock&sort=~Price&Range=Price:Min,Max~1|Mileage:Min,Max|Year:Min,Max |Seats:Min,Max|Power:Min,Max|TowingBrakes:Min,Max| EngineSize:Min,Max&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294964924%20903&vertical=Car&distance=25

Has also been resprayed, it was originally black. But the owner is a proper panel beater and did it himself. It was professionally done, but chose to leave the engine bay untouched as I recall. Clutch was on its way, and I think it needed two new tires for the rear. But everything else was fine and the color looked incredibly nice. I think $25,000 was the best he would do (about 2 months ago) without a rwc. Doesn't appear to have dropped the price.

This one:
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/honda-s2000-1999-12122430?vertical=Car&cr=14&eapi=2&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294964924%20903&distance=25&silo=Stock&Range=Price:Min,Max~1|Mileage:Min,Max|Year:Min,Max |Seats:Min,Max|Power:Min,Max|TowingBrakes:Min,Max| EngineSize:Min,Max&sort=~Price

Was the nicest one of about 7 s2000's that my friends and I checked out. Everything was perfect. The front bar had been hit as he honestly mentions, but it would be almost impossible to tell had it not been for the sticker left on it. So it was professionally done. Nothing had been pushed in or anything. I tried to get it for $24,000 without a RWC (2 months ago) but wouldn't budge. Nor did he budge for $25,000 without a rwc. This was two months ago and he now has it for $25,000, so maybe can drop it a little more.

As for the other s2k's for sale in Melbourne I cannot provide any extra information. The other ones we checked out have somehow been sold. There was one that literally had almost no oil in the engine. Did not even register on the stick. Another one that had its front fenders replaced/resprayed but could not figure out why. And driving in a straight line would make the cars front wheels turn right for some reason. Not a wheel alignment problem, but something else. It required a bit of strength to hold it straight and turn left. Both been sold.

There was so many s2ks that were written off, due mainly to collisions. Some even twice. Several of them have now been sold.

So yeah, thought I would provide you guys with some information on the s2ks that we checked out. I had a friend that was a mechanic, which obviously significantly helps when buying cars.

No worries. Trying to get "at least 1 Post Quality point" (whatever that means) so I can advertise a DC5 in the for sale section.

We weren't having much luck here either and contemplated going to NSW to buy one. But it is a costly risk. Because if the car sucks, then you have to drive/fly back. Both time and money wasted.

Here is the PPSR Certificate for the black one. https://rapidshare.com/files/2654892327/ppsr_search_certificate_UKB719.pdf

One annoying thing was that it was under finance. I called the finance company to see how much was left owing but they cannot reveal that information unless you can give them the payout figure, then they will confirm that it is legit. So you have to ask the owner to call them to get a payout figure. He gives you it, then you call racv finance and tell them the figure and they will confirm that. Then write two checks, one to racv, and the remaining to the owner. He said there was only like ~$2,000 left. I told him that he should just pay it off to increase the probability of him selling the car. He said it is for tax benefit reasons. He is an accountant... So that might be plausible.

For the white one I mentioned https://rapidshare.com/files/1045344448/ppsr_search_certificate_TOYS2K.pdf

And some others if anyone needs it. Rego number at the end of the file.

my mate just bought an s2k off gumtree, i thought it was a bit sus but all car checks and inspections were a tick so he got a mad deal on it

There can sometimes be good cars on other sites, that are not listed on carsales.
They usually include:
-Gumtree
-Tradingpost (I usually hope some old man advertises a mint condition sports car at a low price because he has never heard of carsales).
- Firesport
- eBay
And the usual forums, ozhonda, nissansilvia, skylinesaustralia, s2k international.

Just have to be patient and realistic.

I would personally get an EP3 if I had the money and was on my P's. They are cheaper, lower km's, better fuel, most come in white (which I prefer), and both handling and speed are just as good as the s2k. Most look to be unmolested and in good condition.

But it is personal preference.

actually i was doing some research on bringing cars interstate, apparently (dont quote me on this - i wasnt able to find a reliable source) you can transfer parts of rego over and save you some cost on your rego in qld? well that might have only worked with transferring rego from another state INTO NSW, might not work for the opposite direction.

But that could be something for you to look into haha

I've bought a car interstate before and what usually happens is the seller gets a refund of the remainder of the rego when the buyer gets it registered in another state. But that's for transferring into QLD.. duno about other states but I think it's probably the same?

Hi guys, I've been interested in getting an S2000 for some time now. It is going to be my second car, but I'm a mature guy; I'm not into modding, racing, and etc. I'm just after a clean, stock S2000 that's not going to give me any headaches. My knowledge of cars is quite basic, so I'm here to learn and get some tips off the experts (I've already learned a fair bit just by reading a few threads!). I'll definitely be getting a professional inspection on the car before I get it, but if you were looking to get an S2000s for yourself, which ones below would you cross off your list immediately? Colour is not very important to me, I'm more interested in reliability.

Hey Guys, Ex Honda driver here (had a Euro until I sold it earlier this year, miss my Hondas :(). I sold the car intending to purchase something along the lines of a 135i/370z, however keep finding myself thinking of and looking at S2000s, have always loved them!

Anyone know anything about this particular car? (Apart from those shocking wheels.. had a quick look around the forums and didn't find anything)

fussy... i thought as much. You're severly limiting your range there. Accept a few faults - they can always be fixed.

Yeah after speaking to a few s2k owners I've realised there's always going to be some faults with a 10+ year old car. And its a matter of finding one with minor faults as opposed to major ones.

the car was on gumtree a while ago and i also called the dealer up that the previous owner traded it in to and they said the reason its on PPSR register is because of a suspension problem - they say no physical damage etc but yeah whatever to be honest id stay away - there's a reason that car is still for sale at that price and those k's - its been up for a good 3+ months (never sold on gumtree hence the trade-in).

I just picked up a silver with red leather ap1. In absolutely immaculate stock condition (only two small scratches on the entire body, minus three or so stone chips!) with 57,000kms owned by a 54 year old for the last 7 years. The prev owner kept a folder with reviews on the car along with a bunch of other s2000 related documents. Full honda log books. Had it checked out as well with no accident history or previous panel work. I was looking for ages. They're hard to come by in good condition that's why you pay for a good one.

I'd sell it for the right price but I'm in melbourne ;)

Anyone know gone out and had a look at this s2k..

Yeah, i also checked it out a couple of weeks ago, apart from the suspension the detailing of the car was terrible. Looked like a poor respray had been done, there were i'd say roughly 10 chips around the car, the most noticeable one was on the front bumper it was pretty big and a poorly job done on the patch up. Rust could be seen inside the mechanics of the soft top. I'd stay away.

I looked at a black one on carsales with 99,000km, $23,500, why would you look at one with 177,000 km when there are better ones around that range. Just my 2 cents. Plus the black one was in decent condition and well kept minus a few little things.

I had a quick look at this one before I picked up another last week. It's had one headlight replaced with a light blend, small dent on the rear bumper, one exhaust tail has a dent also.

I should've scoped it out for a little bit longer but had my heart set on the one I ended up buying. FYI he told me he'd take 22.5 but its been up there for about 1 month now and he wanted it gone ASAP so maybe go have a look.

Keep an eye out on carsales. Some decent ones pop up now and again.

I had a look at that black one to. It had no oil in it when I first had a look, I had to tell him what oil to use to top it up. Last serviced at the start of the year and not once has he checked the oil etc.. Other than that. It was still running fine and was a half clean example. The front bar and headlight was replaced. Rear bar had a dent. No structural damage though. I told him I'd buy it a month ago and was ever since waiting for him to get it inspected by CRS automotive. He kept postponing it and obviously he was just waiting for someone else to have a look at it and buy it.. Don't know why he made it difficult. I just got turned off from all the ****ed s2s out there. Maybe in a couple years ill get an ap2.. Who knows. But not worth buying an ap1.. Way too overpriced. Considering insurance companies see their market value at 12k

From what I went to look at that's the only decent one (besides the one I purchased). Unless you wanna pay 37k, that silver ap2 looks clean. But I didn't bother as for 37k you can buy something that's actually newer and worth such a high figure (370z, sti etc.)

When i read the post, the person wasn't 100% sure it was the same car they flipped (but same colour, year and km's seemed to match) but yeah it was enough to get me to sack the car completely. There's a decent 05 model SSM on as well, but i saw that up on gumtree a good 4 months ago and was taken down eventually apparently the owner got lowballed too much (anything on gumtree is gna be lowballed though). Are you all sure that that ap2 has been flipped? It's ALOT to ask for a car that's been hit. Could it be that it just hasn't sold because the price is ridiculous for a car that's 8 years old?

You're spot on. This is my second s2000. My first one sold within the week I put it up. I couldn't believe how many people called me. The only reason I sold my previous one was Bc I had a Monaro as well and my parents nutted it because I had two relatively expensive cars (fair enough). I bought it on a whim.

I paid low mid 20's for mine and couldn't be happier that I spent that 2-3k more on buying a well looked after example. I'm also glad I bought a car which is in such demand - I'm sure we'll both get our money back in years to come because the examples online are shocking and demand has remained high since I last sold my first (in 2010).

Yeah I agree with you. I paid a bit over mid 20s for mine but was an 03 model with some other handy extras that I saw good value in. And yeah I am sure I'll get my value for money in years to come when clean, low km examples become even more rare to find :).

bowzer aka bao and atse. He was talking about the 37k silver ap2 on there. Bao, is your car advertised for 37k or 40.5k? Is your car white or silver? Get your own mind straight first.. And we do not tell people to not buy a car. We purely discuss what we have found out about the cars that others may not have.. You know what forums are about, discussions and source of info. If you dont like it, dont sign up for them and dont log into them

Thank you. "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ALPS again."

Also to Paul: it takes time to hunt successfully but there are a few decent ones on carsales at the moment from what I can see on the ads. My mate may be picking one up this Sat in fact.

Hey all, it's been awhile since I've had a repost in here but I'm finally back in looking for an s2k.
Pass my final exam so as a graduating present the old folks said go hunting :)!

I've got a mere budget of 20k~ and would prefer the cars to be located in Adelaide or Melbourne.
I know that's pretty limiting but those 2 cities I frequently visit and that I live in Adelaide haha.
So if anyone has any information. Holla please

Thanks all

nobody's gonna holla, they're all fighting for the good ones

Awesome one in Adelaide on carsales. Search reg plate "Dewey". He is asking around 25. But If all checks out that's a clean low km example.

If your budget can stretch out a little I'd be looking at that. Also circa 20k you'll be hard pressed to find a good one.

Also as mentioned previously in this thread the black one in melbourne with 99,000km for 23,500 is also a decent example. Other than those two, there's f all.

Good luck :)

Hahaha. Yeeeh i kinda have that feeling now that everyone is fighting for it.
They're just such a prime example of a quality car.
My brother had one 5 years back and that was pretty nuts to be in cruising over the west gate bridge with the roof off at night.

Im turning 21 soon so it's pretty much gonna be a accumulated gift, gonna try and milk them as much as possible now hahahah

09-12-2012, 01:16 PM
jesus. if that black one is legit (kms n everything) then people can stop complaining about no good s2000s. i'm sitting on very similar kms and i would not sell for anywhere near that low.

to anyone that asks for "a good clean example" the answer is simple - go check out dewey in adelaide. if it checks out it is a bargain and a half.

Probably kangaroo whistles.

And that drivers seat looks pretty crappy for only 45,000Km, sorry.

Front lip isn't genuine.

I'm an old mate of Duy's - known him since he was born. Don't post here much since my Prelude days have long past and I haven't modified my wife's Accord Euro since she's had it. Found this thread mentioned over on OCAU. I can vouch that his black S2K is legit kms wise and he replaced the clutch this year (no expense spared there). Paintwork and interior as he described - he's a fussy bugger with cars and took him forever to find that one in Mt Gambier. The black circles in the grille are some extra lights the Mt Gambier owner installed - extra lighting for his country trips. Of course if anyone was interested they would get in contact with him and inspect it in person.

What can you get for 25k that's better? I optioned up a whole bunch of cars (most newer than an s2k) but after driving all of them I still went with an s. I had a 25k budget to work with.

I think what sold me was that they're pretty rare, look better than most in the low-mid 20 price range and that they are discontinued meaning less depreciation compared to Car models which are updated after every 2 years

it will be a hard sell considering the interior color, but the pricing seems about right for a legit gpw with <100k kms. white honda tax definately present.

also ludecrs, if you are talking about the seats in the black adelaide one, i'm not sure how good your eyes are lol as the pic of the seats is from like 5m away. but i wouldn't expect perfect seats in any s2000 regardless of ks. i have watched mine deteriorate in the last 5k kms over a year, and have seen others with less ks than mine in worse condition than mine. only ones i've seen that are like new are retrimed.

black8thgen
10-12-2012, 11:20 AM
from looking closely at the pics of the gpw one:
1. S2000 fender badge only on the passenger side - missing on the driver side.
2. passenger side bumper alignment is a bit out of whack (could be dodgy picture quality though)
3. seller claims its an 03 model (headlights and tails match up, as does the glass window roof), but from one of the interior pics the passenger side door does NOT have the tweeter (as all 03 models should). Can't see a clear view on the driver side door so could be a door replacement of some sort.

someone should go check it out though

s2000 fender badge is visible in the first picture on the drivers side :-S

paint looks a little different if you compare the bottom side skirt to the front bumper in pics 1/7/8, goes from a light shade of white to a darker shade of white ... could just be the pictures though.

That's what I thought, but its the driver side, identified by the antennae and the decal on the windshield which you can only just see in picture 7.

shit wtf LOL i thought he was talking about the white one in QLD on carsales.....

NEVER MIND. My bad... i was looking at this just as i woke up...

I'm talking about this one: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/honda-s2000-2003-13907230?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=2&eapi=2&__N=1216+1246+1252+1247+1282+4294766524+4294965322 +4294964924&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default

And damn that white gumtree one looks pretty legit but OVERPRICED.

EDIT: I also remember seeing a white 02 model GPW with full red interior at a dealership down in VIC - someone on this forum took a look at it and said it had once been in a big hit. There COULD be an unlikely chance it is the same one? The front H badge on the gumtree model is an old 99-01 badge rather than the 03 badges as well.

haha all good man, I started to wonder whether if we were getting mixed up with different adverts after my last post :-P.

That one on carsales looks worse than the gumtree one. Just a few things I can see, but could just be the photos is damage on the front lip (visible in picture 1, but under the 5 on the number plate in picture 10/11), issue with the paint where the side skirt meets the front bumper (picture 11), colour of the front bumper looks different (picture 11), obviously fake red badges?, no headlight washers?, rear bumper is like 1~2mm hanging (picture 6)?

1st gen. Boxster S

charlie15
10-12-2012, 07:48 PM
In all honesty and not just because I bought the s2000, I was never sold on the look of the first boxster. Strangely I think they look a lot more dated when compared to the s. Plus my mate had one (think it was the s), cost him an arm and leg for his minor services and around 1k for the major. Plus when/if something goes wrong your bank account will know about it.

I looked at a late model mx5, Evo, s15 (had previously), wrx, ve ss-v, 350z (which I've owned previously as well) but I ended up with an s2000. If I didn't find a clean one I reckon it would've been the mx.

In saying all that, I wouldnt say no to a 05+ boxster given that I had sufficient funding for maintenance.

Correct. I have not seen this exact one (which should tell you that I didn't even think there was a point in going out to blacktown to see it).

The fact that the front bumper has been resprayed and also a bit out of alignment was enough to put me off. (But i was VERY picky about choosing my s2k, hence why it took me so long lol).
