Hey guys, my dc2r headlights are yellow and filthy, so i've taken out the lights to give 'em a clean.

Now i can't seem to get the actually housing apart, i feel like im ganna snap the clips, also is the gasket adhesive? feels like its stuck together.

And say i do get them apart and cleaned, could i just use a little bit of silicone over the original gasket to seal it up?

Any help appreciated.

ps- i would have googled this shit but im on a ps3- it freezes whenever i try to google anything lmao.

Will also rep good posts with my level 5 bbc.

hmmm so it turns out i have to put the kunts in the oven for 5 minutes then pry em apart with flat head screwdriver. hope the heat from the oven softens the tabs up.

before you try this its advised that you take of all bits of rubber and shit you can find.

brb trying this now.

If they are sealed with silicon then you need to heat it up to pry it open. Oven is the commonly used method as you have found but i prefer to use a portable fan heater as ive seen some pics of headlights that got melted in the oven so i didnt want to risk it when a decent heater will get it warm enough to open, also people in my house probably dont want car parts in the oven lol.

To remove the old silicon use turps(or another sutable solvent) on a rag to rub it off then reapply new silicon to prevent the housing from getting condensation.

What are you using to clean/polish them?

Hey chilli pope!

hmmm don't own a heater, so i'll just try the oven method, according to youtube preheat oven to 100c then cook for 5 minutes, i'll just keep a close eye on em.

haven't got that far yet, what would you recommend? i heard a bit of lemon in water works well.

Thanks broseph!

Yeh if you dont have a heater then an oven is probably your only method, think your meant to place the headlight on some heatproof oven gloves or something similar so the rack doesnt heat up and melt lines in the bottom the the housing but if your only doing it at 100 then may not be an issue.

Depends on whats wrong with them as to what i would do,

Condensation inside i would use meguirs plastx on a hand applicator.

Light oxidization on exterior i would use plastx with a buffer and coat with wax.

for heavy oxidization i use 2000 grit sand paper, some meguirs compound(ill find the bottle if you want the name) with a buffer to remove the scratches from the sand paper then polish with plastx and coat with wax.

May not be the best products/methods but they work well for me.

How did it go? 5 min one go might be too long. I would pull them out every 2 min just to check on them.

Dont wana risk melting the whole headlight =]

To clean the inside just pop out the bulb and put some detergent + water inside. Shake it up and dry it out with a hair dryer.

You can wet/dry the outside and polish it up with plastic polish.
