Had a frontal accident on a kerb two months ago with no body damage just component damage. We had swapped the front subframe as the front right tyre was pushed back and now is in its proper place. The next issue is that the front tyres have different cambers. The front left has -1 and the right has -2. My mechanic thinks swapping out the hub assembly would fix this. Anyone else have any recommendations?

Have a look and compare them, see if theyre bent or damaged

Was thinking of taking it into pedders for a $14 check of the car. They might find the problem or something my mechanic missed. I kinda got no clue if there bent or damaged. Im the person if someone tells me whats wrong id swap the part out but no clue at checking it out =/

1 degree isnt all that much for it to be out. it could be something as simple as worn bushes.

Yeh but i dont wanna be driving with -1 on the left and -2 on the right. Hopefully ill be able to get it diagnosed. Was just wondering on peoples ideas on what can be damaged to cause the difference.

if the upper control arm is bent it will caue more camber.

Well as far as i remember the mechanic said the lower control arms are fine and not bent. I will ask him if he inspected the upper control arms.

Call Straightline Automotive in Clayton. They do suspension & crash alignments. They will be able to let you know straight away

check out the below;

1) Upper Control Arm
2) Lower control arm
3) Trailing Arm
4) Hub assembly.

most likely it would be either the upper control arm or the complete hub assembly.

Rear trailing arm will not affect front camber.

I would be checking the alignment of your upper and lower control arms, as these, along with the subframe, are what absorbs all the impact in a gutter crash.

I didnt say anything about the Rear..

Was referring for the fronts

just pay the 14$ from pedders or somewhere they can align the car and see whats up with it. It will be costly for you to just guess and pretty much replace everything to find out that you didnt need to change everything could be just a wrong alignment to a missing bushing.

For 1deg of camber I seriously doubt you'll notice a change with the naked eye in a control arm or whatever. Probably have to get it checked out by a suspension/alignment shop.

I have never heard of that being called a trailing arm. when you purchase a front lower control arm it comes as a complete unit with that section of the arm as well, no just the bit that goes from the subframe to the hub.

either way, give straightline a call

Yeh ill have it looked out at peddars, hopefully it is just the upper control arms, was planning to buy a camber kit anyways for the front n rear, is it rather difficult to swap out a hub assembly?

Well cars booked in to be checked on tuesday. Got a mates rims/tyres on the car so its drivable in the meantime. Need to replace my rear wheel bearing so im thinking about swapping all 4 once i figure out the problem with my camber. I'll let you guys know whats up after the check

rear wheel bearings are a complete hub, thats piss easy, an axle nut and they come out, new one goes back on.

Front wheel bearings are a bit different, the hub needs to be pressed out of the bearing, the bearing pressed out, the new one pressed in, and then the hub pressed back into place.

I found some on ebay for like $30, dunno if there good or not. Anything to look out for when buying new wheel bearings? like the material? I need to find someone with a press i guess xD or take it to a mechanic all apart might make things cheaper.

dont buy off ebay for stuff liek bearings.

go to repco. ive got repco front and rears in mine, theyre SKF from memory, which is who makes the OEM ones.

as the rear hubs are a complete unit theyre about 90 bucks each, but the fronts should only be about 30 each.

Reviving this thread, i have swapped out the hub assembly and upper/lower control arms. My front right wheel still has more - camber then the front left wheel.
