I am picking up a basic Euro auto with leather interior next week which does not come with HID. Its a company car so I will do alot of driving and the first thing I want to do is upgrade to HID lights.

Can someone tell me what the lamp type is for the 2012 model, so I can order the HID kit from ebay.

I've already purchase a GPS with wireless reverse camera which I will mount once I get the car.

Thanks.

Yeah avoid dodgy eBay HID kits. In Australia, cars with HIDs are required to have auto levellers and headlight washers. You risk getting defected with dodgy retrofitted HIDs.

I know of people who do have kits installed with no troubles though, as long as the headlights are properly adjusted, and the colour isn't too off. Some go so far as to hide ballast and wiring. Doesn't make it legal though...

Thanks, for the H1 hint.

PS : where can I get aftermarket fog lights that are like the OEM ones.

The company wouldn't pay extra for them.

What happens if you get blinded and crash head on into the illegal HID's car because you couldn't see the road? Who is at fault?

it would be the car with glaring lights on. same as if you have your high beam on.

IMO a set of Phillips Xtreme Vision is a much better option and totally 100% legal.

or Osram Nightbreaker Plus

Would your insurance payout or deny because the car isn't roadworthy?

What if it were the high beams on?

/sidenote: curious, I don't run after-market HID's/

well, what is the chance of getting defected?

running retroffited HID bulbs in halogen designed headlamp or Philips Xtreme Vision H1 bulbs with the correct wattage + beam projection + clear glass + OEM upgrade for many cars (not blue tinted like MTEC / Crystal Vision / etc)?

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?126232-Headlights&

in the past i was even running on Philips Rally 110w with relay cable set for like 9 years, illegal wattage but correct beam projection, not once it attracted the popo tender loving attention and oncoming drivers never complained ;-)

the issue with retrofitting HID bulbs into halogen designed headlamps = incorrect / smeared beam projection = super annoying for others / oncoming drivers.

that would depend on many factors:
- the insurance assessor's knowledge and if he is being difficult or not
- witnesses / victim's comments
- severity of accident
- strength of nexus between the glare and the accident

Natnat, any recommendations of which fog-light to use to match the temperature of the stock CU2 HID's?

any of the H11 bulbs that are blue tinted or colour rated above 4000K should look similar to the stock HID. or go with LED H11 bulbs but this could look purplish?

Stock HID temperature should be 4300K. So check out the fog lights with that colour temperature.

Are there certain ADR rules that fog lights have to apply to in order to make them legal or is it just, white/yellow non-HID?
