View Full Version : Removing resonator from '97 DC2 Vti-R?
I don't even know where it is because apparently it was supposed to be close to the axleback or in between it and the catalytic converter but there's just normal piping. I see a resonator-like resemblance near the headers though but I'm not sure if its that.
I heard that resonators restrict air flow and sound, so if it's legal to remove; how do I remove it?
Thanks for any info :)

See the hotdog type muffler in bottom left, thats the resonator and it doesnt really restrict flow to the point that you'll notice anything

Whats it does do is help reduce the buzzy raspiness at higher revs so I advise you to leave it alone :)

there is a resonator under the front right of your vehicle.
It's an intake resonator. Many have removed this item.

So it doesn't add any HP at all from the restricted air flow? :0

Can I get rid of my resonator myself? or do I need to go to a mechanic? :|
Thanks for responses :)

resonator is easy to take off
just undo airbox and detach from intake hose/pipe
undo all the bolts underneath the airbox and shimmy it out
from memory i didnt need to take off the front bar

you can do anything yourself, with the workshop manual and tools
Removing resonators will allow better airflow but increase in noise.

It will also increase dirt in your air filter lol
so you will need to clean it more often

if you've got some cash you may as well chuck in a CAI while you've got it all apart..

Too true.... Infact, ive had to clean it out every 3 months as dirt build up is crazy... you'll find leaves and small rocks :/

Or just chuck a Cold air feed to the stock air box :D
