Hi all, My '83 1.8 prelude didnt start yesterday. I suspected the fuel pump so pulled fuel lead from filter in engine bay and cranked it. No fuel came out. I ran external power to the fuel pump and presto it pumped fuel. Interesting thing . for me at least, was i rigged a fuel line straight to carbs through a funnel and turned the motor. It started no problem and soon as it started the fuel pump also started to pump fuel. So would it be the fuel pump relay? If it is where is it located and where do i buy a new one? Many thanks for your help. BTW ive had my car since march 1983 brand

Its been a loong time since I worked on an 83 Prelude. Check the under dash area for any relays. It could possibly be under the hood.

either the relay has failed or the fues has blown

Fuse > relay > wiring to pump > ecu

1983 prelude does not have an ECU :)

Fuel pump is on seperate circuit sounds like it's cut in the safety relay, normally I get it going by jumping it off a seperate 12v source or you could just hard wire it to a switch and put it in the dashboard.

I'll dig around for a description of where it is and perhaps I have a diagram somewhere. Send me a PM when you can and i'll email you the manual if you like.

Also up for lots of pics.. I've been droolign over these cars for over 15 years and each time I see another it's like a new love!

Apparently the correct term is fuel pump cut off relay. Its behind the fuse box, black thing size box matches. There is an excellent site in the U.S called preludedriver.com, has service manual downloads for all model preludes. Anyhow after pulling the relay and generally just fiddling the old girl is going again like new. Puzzling to say the least. Ordered a oem pump and relay from the states anyway for ninety dollars just in case. For those who have asked ill post some pics soon as i can. many thanks for those who have helped
