Overnight with no warning, the 4ws light has come on in my 97 gen5 prelude. Not only this but the rear wheels are not turning. The car seems to drive ok. There have been no suspisious noises before this problem occurred. Anything simple I'm missing before I visit Honda?

When the light goes on then it means your 4WS is not active and therefore your wheels wont turn in the rear. One of your sensors could be faulty or your allignment is out. Do a search on Preludeaustralia.com and you will find more details.

thats right, when you rlight comes on the 4WS stops working. there could be a number of things that could cause it. the best thing would be to read the fault codes out the ecu for a start. then go from there.

-did you hit the kerb hard at all.
-drive your car with the hand brake on at all
-let the car roll with the ignition off.
-turn the wheel when your rear wheels where wedged on the kerb

when this happens ur rear wheels lock in the straight position (obviously)

anyway try resetting it
usually does the trick
d/c the battery for a bit

it is a common problem for the 4WS computer to be faulty.

actually its rarely the ECU, people are quick to blame the computer when infact its a faulty or misalighned sensor that causes ongoing faults
