Hey all, I've been browsing these forums for a few days now and got a lot of useful info. I didn't see much point creating two threads so this might be a really long read, sorry. Firstly, I bought my 07 Accord Euro (base model) earlier this month and so far I'm loving it! I got it in blue which wasn't what I was after, but after seeing it in the metal I'm glad I got it. The blue really sparkles. I agree with everyone that the 16" wheels look way too small. I might shop around for new wheels soon.

Previously I've owned a 2000 WRX with 200KW @ the wheels. Great car but after a few years of driving to and from work it got really tiresome to drive. It was loud, stiff, and not fun to drive after a 12hr shift, not to mention the cost of insurance, petrol and attention from coppers. So then I decided to get something that was still fun but easier to drive and less noisy, a Fiesta XR4. The Fiesta was really fun to throw into corners and was so light and nimble, but the clutch was annoying. The friction point was really high and you had to really ride the clutch to take off smoothly which wasn't fun in bumper to bumper traffic. I then made the decision to get an auto but kind of lost the plot and got a Lancer station wagon - biggest piece of s**t. I dunno what I was thinking, it was ugly and boring as f**k, handled like a boat, and was bad on petrol. I sold that within a month.

So now I've got the Accord Euro and at the moment I'm thinking it is the best overall car I've ever owned. It's smooth, comfortable, so easy to drive, and I reckon it handles like a dream. It does feel heavy but I love the way it steers. I think it has more than enough power for our roads too (give it a month). I know people complain about its power when coming from more powerful cars but for what it is I think it's almost perfect. Pretty much the car I've been searching for.

Now finally to Hanny's service. It's probably the most recommended workshop in Sydney on these forums so I decided to go there. Going from advice on these forums I went there with a bottle of Motul 8100 and Redline D4. When I arrived they thought I was nuts to perform my 40,000km service at 34,500km. I told them that the last service was over 6 months ago but they didn't think that mattered. So they just did it as a second 30,000km service. Now to the Redline D4, Robert strongly recommended that I use the genuine Honda gear oil but after reading a few threads on these forums I told him to use the Redline and he reluctantly did. He had never even heard about Redline before and a few of the mechanics were looking at the bottles and laughing and shrugging their shoulders, which got me a little worried. I remember one forum member said they were humiliated when they went in for a service at Hanny's and I can see how a more sensitive person could be, but I wasn't too bothered. Robert told me to stick around because he was curious on how the Redline D4 would perform so I did. I like the idea of a service while I waited, it was good to see them actually do the work and it was a slick operation. They ended up using probably about 4ltrs of the Redline. Robert took the car for a spin and came back smiling in relief. He said so far so good but pleaded that I take the car back at the first sign of trouble. So I think it's really good that he was genuinely worried about my car, he's the kind of mechanic that you'd want. Price was great too. I think the Motul oil has made a difference, there seems to be a lot less vibration in the gas pedal. I'm not sure if the Redline D4 made much difference, I dunno if I should ask them to do another flush as they didn't think it was necessary to change the gear oil in the first place. And they didn't drain it from the sump, they used a suction thing to suck it out from the top somewhere. Can you flush the gear oil that way? They also told me that I don't need to change the timing belt because I have a chain one - I never knew that. Robert recommended that I change the oil every 5,000km which I think is a bit excessive on this kind of car. I thought the fact I used fully synthetic oil meant it would be okay to change every 10,000kms.

So to conclude, I'm very happy that I bought my Accord Euro and I highly recommend Hanny's Performance. Sorry for the long read...

Major Text block - well done!

Welcome mate - you have made a very good choice going to Hanny's

A mate gets his Integra Type S serviced there and can't recommend them highly enough, very well drilled team...

Nice review. 5k km service is a bit over the top, especially with RedLine, and if you don't take it to the track or tow with it (seriously, towing with a Euro?). That is unless you only do 5k km every year, then perhaps you'll need the shorter intervals.

The auto tranny service interval for Cl9 is 60kkm

I'd half that....

And redline D4 is way better than atfz1 in terms of longevity.

I'll definitely be taking my car back to Hanny's for my actual 40,000kms service. I trust Redline because I used to only use Redline Shockproof in my WRX, it made the changes much smoother. I can't tell with the Euro because I had no complaints about it in the first place. Another thing I noticed with the Motul oil is that the engine starts a lot nicer. Before I used to get a bit of a clank/grind towards the tail end. I'm guessing the previous owners had semi synthetic in it.

My 120K service is coming up and Im thinkin of taking the car to hannys for the service.
I bought 12 ltrs of Redline 5W30, but Im not sure which gear oil to be getting, theres a few different redline gear oils floating around.
D4, Shockproof or MT90 ? Which one do I use and how many litres do I need?

Car is an 04 CL9 manual btw

Pretty sure redline D4 is auto transmission oil.

Welcome mate!
I too for the same reason went from skyline 290KW to euro, and i do miss the KWs at times, but n im happy that i keep and save heaps of $$$$ while still having a bit of fun in the euro, but heaps more reliability, efficiency with less problems from car/cops/neighbors/unwanted attention. Over all a WIN WIN!

Yeh man i noticed that D4 is auto fluid
so what do i use between the MT90 n shockproof redline oils?

It seems the Euro is a popular choice for people going from high powered cars to something more sensible. After my 1hr bumper to bumper drive into work today I'm glad I made the switch.

MR LATE - I don't know if Hanny's is an official Honda service centre, it might be a different story if you service your car at a Honda dealer - I'm not sure. I'm a bit of a brand whore so I always like to use car parts and oils of my choice. There are a lot of ELF posters in Hanny's so I guess they use ELF oils when not using the genuine Honda stuff which they insist on using. ELF Excellium is also a great engine oil but I just prefer Motul.

daKIK - I've read that you can use D4 in manual transmissions also but you should probably send an email or speak to a Redline rep to see which would be best for your car. I think the shockproof is a bit overkill. The Redline website recommends Redline MTL for Honda/Acura MTs.

Hanny's definitely sounds like the place to go in Sydney.

Got my 80,000km service coming up which includes a valve clearance check. Anyone have experience with Hanny's and the valve clearance check?

^ not sure about them doing the valve clearance. they will tell u that k series motors don't need it. that's what my 2 friends told me when they took their euro and CRV to them.

im still in my warranty so im still getting it serviced at honda, but i only just found out that you can opt your own oil even at a honda centre which is very surprising for me. so next service will definately be bring royal purple (my preferred choice).

K series needs it, just nowhere as frequent as say... B series.

Yeah I asked about the valve clearence check too, but they said they would only need to check it if it makes a ticking noise.

That's true.... I prefer a shop where I can see what they're doing.

They know what they are doing, and they are super quick and professional about it. I was also quite surprised at the prices they charged even on OEM items and labour. But unfortunately they don't touch cars with transplanted engine i.e. mine :(

After my first time there changing the rocker cover gasket they basically didn't want to have anything to do with it anymore (b18c VTiR in an EG)

mine is a 06, from brand new till now, I have been servicing at honda service center. From 10k service, I have been using Castrol Edge 5W-30 so there is no issue with using own oil. For other stuffs, I just use the honda's stuffs.

I can see what the are doing to my car at the Honda SC that I go to. The waiting lounge is on top of the garage, so I usually sit there for few hours reading magazine while waiting for them to finish up servicing my car. My other car, I send to this mech where I can just sit few meters beside the the car while the fix it.

is that Trivett Parramatta?

They're reasonable.. some of the apprentices who work there are Honda enthusiasts and drive k swap civics.
