um... use gearbox oil for gearbox

stick with OEM to be safe...

There are aftermarket ones out there, but i dunno wats good. I'm running redline and it's very smooth

As above, or if u want something bit better go with redline

Currently have martini oil (75w80) slight crunches into third.
I also Have 3litres of redline (75w90) to go in but cbf changin it

I vote redline
I used oem in my dc2 and had no issues though to be honest and you can't go wrong with oem
But I've heard only good things about redline so will be trying that soon in my civic

I'll make the choice easier for you.

Do you give your gearbox a hard time? lots of hard or fast high RPM shifting?

if yes then use fully synthetic 75W90 gearbox oil.

if you drive fairly normally with very occasional hard driving then use OEM or VMX 80.

the synthetic stuff is only better in a high stress environment. honda gearboxs were meant to use what is basically an 80 weight engine oil.

thanks for that makes it easier to choose. and one quick question would it still be fine to use oem even tho my gearboxs isnt brand new because i heard not to buy oem unless your gearboxs hasnt been driving that much? thats what ive heard but not sure if its true

thanks

baby oil? lol. The oem mtf is good, if you have a slight crunch/ stiffness use oem mtf + the nulon gearbox treatment additive. Works a treat, did a flush in a mates type r that was crunching high thirds and is now silky smooth. Drained old fluid, added about 2.1L of mtf and 125ml (thats approx the 2.2L total required) of the additive. Have to kinda baby it around for say 500 ks (just a number i pulled out of nowhere) to let it apply itself all round the box and it becomes smooooth. Not sure whats in the additive but it worked. Not saying its guaranteed but thats my experience.

hi,

Im gunna do a gearbox service on my car and i was just wondering what gearbox oil would be the best for the car is has 173000 odm so im not sure to buy honda smooth gearbox oil or penrite engine oil?

Honda MTF is great, however the Penrite oil gave me a lot of headaches. My gears crunched from 3rd to 5th and sometimes my reverse gear would just get stuck. Then I moved onto MTF, and all my gears feel smooth just the way it should. No more crunches.

Heres my experiance with The Penrite Oil (http://forum.clubitr.com.au/showthread.php?t=11069)

I believe what Leo(e240) has said previously on another thread in regards to gearbox oils is true, it is coming from a guy who has pure knowledge in regards to transmission.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I never liked OEM - good for a street only car.
Used it a couple of times of the circuit and always noticed alot of wear.

Honda trans need a specific weight and typically, gear oils are too heavy.
Honda trans typically need an oil similar to a 10w 30.

Street car/daily driver - honda mtf
street car/weekend warrior - honda mtf/torco mtf/amsoil mtf/pennzoil synchromesh
race car - torco mtf/amsoil mtf/pennzoil synchromesh
+ plate lsd - add ford friction modifier until the noise level becomes acceptable to you. Everyone is different. However, the more you add, the less effective your synchros are at high rpm.
