Hey guys,

i need new tyres, whats the best bang for buck tyres in the 205/60/16 tyres size.

dont go drifting, twisties or track days so daily commuting, although would love the peace of mind with the traction in the dry and wet!

i dont usually buy tyres just for daily commuting so i dont know, and i dont want cheap china brand tyres that will just slide when theres a wet patch....

In the profile you have mentioned, I would be looking at kumho or toyo options. Talk to your local supplier for prices

ku31 FTW!

can get em for $110 each fitted/balanced (205/40/17) cheaper for smaller size/profile combo or 245/40/19 for $220each fitted/balanced.

You can also consider the KU18. Got them on the corolla at home (no VTEC, why waste money on performance tyres). Their quieter than KU31 and Michelin equiv. Pricing is similar to KU31. Kumho reckons their better in the wet but have worse treadwear, although the difference shouldn't be great. KU31 is a summer vs KU18 being an all weather.

how about silverstones? they are grippy but thread runs out too quick. not bad for its value also.

i dont want to spend too much, saying around $100 per corner to be honest... something that last long, good in all weather and well mothers going to be driving it with sisters in the car, on a honda accord?

If thats the case then ku31, silverstones, nexxus, and your worse case linglangs, mekhong, singwa tyres la.

For what you want to spend, you will not get a tyre that meets what you want

^^i agree,

Mate if ur worried about your families safety on all terrain,

Then i would suggest spend the money for decent tyres (max150$) for security and peace of mind.

Otherwise you will have to shop around hard and find a set of these if your lucky; bukhos, bankangs, funlops, widgestones, fiorellis, nichellins, baulkens

Fuuuuuuuuu - look out for copies also.

Sorry for hijack but those who have used KU31s and RE002

Which tyre did you like better?

Obviously price wise the KU31s win hands down.

But comparing wet/dry traction and tyre wear?

i have KU31 currently on all 4's.

my car is relatively low and have hardcore sussy setup.

they grip well in the wet/dry - though the only thing is that the tread wears out quicker (maybe due to prev daily use).

but i guess if your going to look after it - then it should last long!

best bang for buck on KU31 - best tyre for the average ever made!

looking at buying tyres on thursday for my ek4... has coilovers etc... anyone have any idea on falken ze 912's , toyo extensa hp compared to ku31's?

I would go with Toyo's T1R. This tyre is highly regarded as a good bang for buck option. Personally I believe it holds up alot better in the wet than the KU31 and has slighty better tyre life

worth the extra $160 for 4? :/ ... from my research in the sizes im looking at 4x ku31 = $480 , 4x falken ze912's = $ 500, 4x toyo extensa hp's = $480 while the toyo t1r's end up being around $640 --'

What you need to remember is that the tyre is ths only physical paet of the car that makes contact with the road. I personally believe that the Toyo's are worth the extra money, considering they are a tyre that punches above it weight and is right up there with the Goodyear Eagle F1, Bridgestone RE002 & Dunlop SP Sport Maxx.

If budget is your only factor in purchasing a tyre, buy Silverstone Evol8

well iv been quoted 115 for 225/45/17 for ku31 so i dont think that a lower grade tyre will be more expensive then that?

kh18 or was it ku27 or something, how are they like?

Wtf? Do you even know the meaning of overrated? Everyone knows kuhmo is a budget Korean brand and their tyres are better than your average china tyre...

It's like as if you just said: you know those new great wall cars, they're overrated...

I understand completely what over rated is. Being a mechanic, I have driven on too many different tyres that I cannot start to name them all. Yes when you compare them to china tyres the are excellent, but as I said before, I would rather have Toyo or even Silverstone over Kuhmo

I think the point I was trying to make, and sorry if it sounded like i was having a go at you but one must first rate highly of something before they can be overrated... If people believe kuhmos will out perform a set of yokohamas they'd be silly.

Silverstone evol8. I'm running them now. It's good for the price. I got mine for 70$ a corner. For fit and balance $100 you're good to go. Or you
Could go darun sport. About same price nice tread pattern but very noisy.
