Hey guys,

With only basic bolt ons; ebay short ram intake, j's racing replica extractors, high flow cat, type r gearbox and spoon n1 catback.

How beneficial will a hondata with tune be with only minor mods? would the gain in power be worth the $1000+ spend on the hondata + tune?

Thanks

Regards, Adrian

Hey mate
Yes/no
Depends what your goals are, future mods etc
You have some good quality parts already
At the end of the day it's up to you
I probably wouldn't worry about it, unless your going to possibly upgrade intake manifold and throttle body

For sure its gonna be beneficial.

Not only are you going to be able to tune for those mods accordingly, and gain probably 30kw, youre also going to be able to get better fuel economy while doing it. Id also be looking at changing throttle body/Intake manifold while youre at it, to make the most of the mods.

Its also going to be something less that you need to do in the future should you go further with mods, like boost, or a high comp/high revving N/A build.

Its fine how it is but a tune will reap more hp from those mods. Not 30kw though as above, thats a bit extreme

If you plan to keep buying mods, youre better to hold off on the tune till youre done modding then tune once, not again and again and again

thanks for the quick reply guys,
i thought upgrading im/tb was only beneficial when aftermarket cams were installed.
I guess sometime during the future id like to install these but for now my car will stay as it is, 30 kw increase is heaps more than i expected for $1000 haha, might be worth it in the end

For a quick and cheap alternative gains, you can advance your timing to a certain degree. Install a FPR @ 40-45psi and you will notice gains. Fuel economy isnt too bad if u got the timing and fuel pressure at the correct settings.

If u dont know how to do, then just stick to your original plans.

as far as i know, you will gain some hp by tuning without any mods. the oem ecu runs with economy and emission in mind, by tuning with hondata or any after market ecu, its gonne optimise your fuel and ignition, which will give you more power.

another thing is you will always need it for further mods down the road.

what about cheaper alternative such as Power FC? with Power FC, you can always unplug it and put ur oem ecu back in when you wanna sell the car.

Lol at 30 maybe 10-20max!

Definitely worth doing, but you'll get more value for money if you have more that what you already have (what the others have suggested)

As some of the other guys have mentioned. Have a plan on how you want to modify your car.

Current Mods - If you're not planning on doing anymore work, then an ECU + Tune will bring out the full potential of the modifications and the rest of the factory components, not only is it highly beneficial for peak power/torque but also the curve, power/torque band, delivery and fuel economy [potentially]. This also depends on how conservative/aggressive the factory tune is, the amount of restriction removed by your mods and a lot on your tuner and whether or not they're accustom to tuning your selected ECU and car.

Further Mods - If you're planning on say mild cams, larger throttle body/intake manifold then its best to have it tuned. Some will say its fine on stock ECU but its restricted to the factory ECU's parameters so you're only reaping guesstimate <60% of the gains.

All in all its a nice way to tie all the modifications together. Remember not focusing on JUST peak gains, a quality tune will give you good numbers but make the car much more alive to drive all round.
