View Full Version : Dyno tune, reason to worry?

So I'm going to be getting a webber carby for my car in a little while (few weeks or months.. depending) and the guys down the road can do dyno tunes... My main worry is that, since my car is old, and worn out, the pushing it close to the limiter may cause it to pop...

The reason I'm curious about it, is they said they can get the car running much better/ more efficiently than with just a by ear kinda tune, cause you don't have the power figures there... which also doesn't sound too true...

I mean, I have a few worries with the company... so I'm skeptical.

Do the pro's of a dyno tune outweigh the cons, when compared to just a regular tune?
Also, how likely is it that an old worn engine could pop, or do some damage on a dyno tune?

cheers

I think you are confusing a dyno tune with a power run like you see at summernats etc.

its not like a dyno tune is limiter bashing the entire time. Its exactly the same as being driven on the road, but it allows the tuner to hold it at particular throttle percentages while under different loads to simulate flat roads, going up hills etc etc.

In short, it'll be fine.

ohok, yeah, that's true... I got them mixed up. I'd never actually seen/ heard much about a tune, so just assumed. my bad.
hmm, guess I might do it then :D

Thanks trism

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to trism again.

Should be fine as stated above.

Similar to road driving just slightly different to allow tuner more flexibility with the motor, so if the motor can run fine then you should be ok provided they know what they're doing :)
