Hi fello Integra crazies, just finished building my B20Vtec all motor race engine for the Phillip Island sprint meets.
Running 85mm modified forged pistons, new Corrillo rods, Custom lightweight fly wheel with 7 inch twin plate tilton clutch, block guard, Toda race headers and Toda C2 spec cams. Intake 48mm ITB, Autronic engine management, Race technologies dash 2 logger and much much more. Compression will be 12:68:1 and running on race 105 fuel.
At time of writing the engine has yet to be installed but only weeks away from having some dyno figures.### Up Date 172Kw @Wheels
Old B18/Vtec engine ran 1:51 at Phillip Island.
Just sharing stuff here, not here to be critical of other Integra fans......

Build looks sick. Road reg or track dedicated? Would be great to see the car.

Expected output? Where on earth did $32k go? Ouch lol

Looking forward to results!

May I ask, why did you build the B series over a K? Srs question, build looks intense!

This car has been an Improved Production track car from about 2000 and won the Vic State Championships for the 2000 and 2001 Late Model class
At that time I only had the B18 with B16 head but highly modified. The engine lasted about 10 years. So now I have decided to go build another race motor and not intentionally meaning to spend so much but has just blown out to that amount...
I really dont like to speculate on power figures as it's an unknown Qty. I know it will be quick and very reliable as with the previous build by the same engine builder. As far as where I got the money ...lol well I got some spare cash from a redundancy pay out.. now Im skint ...lol
The engine will be installed this week I hope and should have some dyno figures soon after.

Cheers Gary

My old engine gave up after Andy... AK Motorworks built me a shit engine that lasted 1weekend, so I went back to my original guy.
I was never planning to spend so much so a K motor was never considered. But as the build progressed we kept thinking of better things to do and as a result bang there goes over ##K...Parts labour on and on. Also this engine builder backs his work, if it goes wrong and Im not at fault he will rebuild at no cost to me.

Since the original build I have only ever had the Koni Yellow with coilovers, nothing fancy but seems to be well set up for Phillip Island as my best time there with the B18/Vtec is 1:51
The pickup points have been lowered to lower the roll centre. The top arms are ajustable so I can dial in the right neg camber and caster but thats it !
The front roll bar is stock and the rear is Whiteline 19mm I think ??

Thanks for that - i hope alot of people read this thread and think twice about cheap coilovers when you can get these results with Koni's...

I do remember having them modified to suit the lowering of the car so that I would not have bump steer....

Personally i would say that a minimal issue since the car is so low (and dedicated to track work). Most street cars aren't that low with modified pick up points, so wouldn't need the mods.

Good luck with the racing again this year!

The guy who built the original B18A/Vtec engine and now the B20/Vtec is Simon Gardiner who with his partner Mike Conway runs a place called Powerplay in Cheltenham Melbourne. These guys are top class builders and tuners and of course you pay for it. But like I said they back their work and I know this because in the early days of my original engine development it happened and Simon re built at no charge and that cost him $8000 to do ! These guys also built my mates 420Bhp @ wheels, S2000 at a cost of $50'000 and what a beast that was.

Thanks everyone for your interest. I will keep you all posted on performance figures when they come to hand. As soon as the car is ready I will be at the next available P.I.A.R.C track day at Phillip Island. If anyone is interested bring your car sign up and get your car out on the track. Im also available as driver advisor for the Sat mornings.

haha...Andy put my car together (didn't build engine, just put everything back together as the whole car was in pieces) and I'm still finding things not done right or tightened properly, and it took him 5 times longer than what he said it would!!

Great build you're doing, a B20 build like what you have done is what I want for the next stage for my track car. I'm usually at most of the piarc days so will see you around once you have it up and running!! Can't wait to see it out there!!

Hey nice little write up on your Civic, wish I could devote some time to do the same as its always interesting to see other members racing builds that are more for track(circuit) racing. What sort of Hp are you pushing now ? What tire are you using ?

Thanks mate, only started doing it a month ago or so after a member here actually asked if I had a build thread. Thought it would be a good way to document and let me look through whats happened and how things have effected times. Just starting out though, so still trying to get setup right and learning how to drive...

Just a little B16 at the moment putting down 110kw @ wheels. Got some Dunlop DZ03G, didn't get much of a chance to try them out last time though, so waiting til the next day which will probably be Round 3 of the VSSC at Sandown at start of next month.

Thanks, the engine is sensational, heaps of grunt and yes revs through the gears much quicker than the old engine due to the new 3.5kg flywheel and the 7.25" Tilton twin plate clutch. Cant wait for the next meeting at Phillip Island on new tires. Expecting lap times under the 1:48

Makes a hell of a difference having the 3.5kg flywheel and 7.25" Tilton twin plate clutch and combined with the added power, it rips through the gears. The one thing I would like to look into is changing the 5th gear ratio to something closer to 1.0. I guess for a road box it's not too shabby at least for Phillip Island. But I think down the track a full close ratio box will be the way to go. The other weakness for this race car is the front brakes. Currently I have Mazda RX7 series 4 twin pot calipers and Legend slotted rotors but I have never been able to lock the fronts. Tried all sorts of pads but nothing. I don't run a brake booster just a modified pedal box. So more money to spend down the track.. lol

So this has an OEM kit on it but the front lip is different, any idea what that is? Hard to tell from the photos and black on black paint.

So what was required to get the brakes to fit? Assuming a custom caliper bracket and simple redrill on the 282mm rotors to 4x100. Interested to see close up pics of the contact area etc on the rotor too..

The front spliter/Spoiler was custom made here in Melbourne about 11 years ago ....The rest of the body kit was on the car when it came from Japan.
The front control arms were modified to have the Mazda RX7 series 4 brakes fit.
I did have Porsche Boxter 4 pots on there but were not suited to run without brake booster. I bought the bolt on Porsche kit in the USA with hats and rotors that bolt right onto the Integra but these were no good for my purpose as I had no brake booster. They worked a treat on my road Integra and looked great. I will get some pics together on both for you guys.
