ive decided on getting a facelift ep3. i have test driven a couple and to me it feels like the vtec isnt that responsive. the car is still quick but i don't hear any noticeable sound change when the vtec kicks in.

i have also test driven a pre face lift model and i did notice the sound of the vtec and also noticed a tiny kick when it kicked in.

should i be feeling this in the facelift models? can anyone see any reason why i shouldnt get a facelift model?

same engine so should sound same same

unless facelift comes with more sound deadening... were they both stock

yeah both were stock. the preface lift had cat back exhaust.
but even with a stock exhaust i feel like i should atleast notice the difference with the vtec in the facelift model.
and yes the facelift model does have more sound deadening i believe.

If you want to notice a big different, you need to get rid of the stock airbox. As soon as you change this into a pod, cai, or a gruppe m than you would notice a difference when vtec kicks in.

so you would say go for the facelift model and do something about the intake? cos i do prefer the front of those much better.
i dont want to buy the facelift model then wanting a preface lift after i buy this one since they are obviously more expensive.

K series you wont hear the cross over if everything is stock the main thing you will probably noticed is the acceleration is a bit better on the FL due to the fly wheel.

What stienerv2 said is right! I didn't know when I hit vtec on the stock airbox. Got my gruppe m intake and I destroyed a tank of fuel in like 350km (sound of the induction was so sweet! Lol). Cross over was a lot more noticeable - both sound and kick wise!

have you ever had any issues with water going down the scoop??

I notice the cross over in vtec in my pre FL car is stock. You dont necessarily hear it or feel it as much but its definitely there.

Its there and you can notice it when you pay attention. It should sound exactly the same on a fl and pre fl, ask Poeter since he has both cars. Ive been in many ep3s and they all sound the same unless the intake/exhaust is changed.

Gruppe m is pretty good as it has the water drain hole on the bottom. Even if water does get in, there is like a lump/basin on the bottom so it catches the water and wont hit the filter directly unless you drove your car into a pond.

to be quite honest, after seeing some hectic rain that sydney got I won't touch CAI. gruppem is still a bit iffy for me.

Risk is less with gruppem but it's still there because the hole is quite small and lets say it's get clogged for whatever reason, then trouble is brewing when it rains like how it did in march.

dc5r injen CAI will leave you hydro-locked. Had to push it home in the rain. lol.

We were only just around the block from the house so eh. And it was downhill. Lucky timing but I guess

Intake is just a stock airbox. I do plan to do the hondata mod which is basically just cutting and removing some of the restrictive parts inside stock box. At this stage, there isn't any intake that wins my bet as I take more variables into acct such as risk of hydrolock, ease of installation, price, build quality, and practical gains.

In the mean time, I only have Sard's 2-1 + cat combo + mugen center pipe + spoon street axleback.

have you dyno this setup?

also what wheels are you running and spec?

cheers

haven't dyno'ed. probably wait for another honda dyno day or something like that. i think the mugen center pipe provided some more down low torque than the kaki since the mugen pipe is slightly smaller in diameter.
