Starter Motor of EG8-Automatic to EG4 Manual?

Will it work if I fit a starter motor that came from a 94 GLI Automatic EG8 into my 94 EG4 Manual Breeze?

What about a 97 EK GLI into EG4?

D series starter motor are interchangeable in all d series

I tried fitting a starter motor that came from an EG8 D15 into my car and it didn't fit. it came out that the starter motor of the EG8 has a wider arms (where the mouting bolts are).

Myth busted, I rekon?
