Bought a new Civic Sport 9th Gen about a month ago .. according to the service manual it appears that the oil gets changed at 10,000km or 6 months ... BUT .. they don't change the oil filter while changing the oil ? ...

The first oil filter change isn't until 20,000km or 12 months! ... and so on, oil gets changed every 10k but filter only gets changed every 20k ?

Anyone got any ideas why Honda would do this? .. doesn't make sense to me, Iv'e always changed the filter when doing an oil change, why wouldn't you ? .. an oil filter isn't exactly expensive? ... and yet, Iv'e no doubt Honda Dealerships will want a couple of hundred dollars at every 6 month service (if you can call it that!).

it is the recommended service interval from Honda.

If you don't like it (many of us don't like it), then ask them to change it.

Yah same with the 8th Gen, they only advise to change the filter every 2nd service.

I still change the filter everytime. Not like it's going to do any harm.

What's more interesting is that the first coolant change is at 200k service o.O

thats the first time ive ever heard of an oil filter being changed every second oil change. as mentioned earlier it isnt expensive (cost no more than $8-10 to the dealer, or $20-25 to the consumer)

Yeah at the Honda dealer where I worked we still replaced them every 10,000kms even tho the book says every 20k.. 20 is way too long to wait.

Its nothing new.

Its a cheap part, so if you want to change the filter every oil change, just do it. End story.

Do you know any Honda dealers in Brisbane that change the filter every oil change? ... I don't think Northside Honda where I got the car do.

Tell them you want to change it and they will do it for you. Its your car and you paying for the filter. They will do it for you. No issues.

In the past I've seen many Toyota and Honda log books that say oil change 5,000km filter change 10,000km. 99% of people I know who service their own cars as well as service other people's cars ignore this and do a filter change every oil change, this is old news...
