Hey guys!

Thought it was about time I introduced myself. Some of you may have seen my random posts/threads, I just sort of ninja'ed my way into OzHonda, so now it's time to get formal..

Anyway, my name is Chris, I'm 23, live in Adelaide, South Australia (nice, quiet little city, sucks balls if you want anything good though - not to mention the abysmal condition of the roads).

Bought my '97 EK Civic beginning of February this year. Previously, I had owned an '88 & '91 Laser. (Both given to me by my parents when I got my L's/P's.)

I wrote off my '88 Laser about 3 weeks after getting my P's. Something like that really wakes you up as to how inexperienced you are.

After that, I was given my '91 Laser when my Mum bought a new Kia. It was on 240,000kms when I got it and was going down hill fast. The thing is dangerous as hell now & seems like it could die any second. However, it refuses to! Damn well-built car, for a Ford.

Anyway, I started my traineeship about a year ago, saved my cash when I was driving the Laser & finally bought my Civic. Got it for $5k, had done 125,000kms, full service history (serviced every 5,000km by a Honda specialist). Is very clean & runs perfect. Few minor paint scratches, only noticeable in the right light.

Only regret I have with buying the EK, is I didn't know enough about Honda's at the time & really just needed a new car ASAP. So I ended up getting a CXi and now I kinda wish I had waited a bit & looked harder for a VTi-R. Meh. Still love the CXi. I plan on modifying for looks only (lol @ 'performance' d16y4). Sort of EK9 style, except with custom rims.

However, when I finish my traineeship I will be purchasing a DC5R & modding it to (hopefully) match or bypass JDM spec. Not sure what I will do with the EK.

Anyway, that was enough of a rant. Cheers for having me guys, you've been a real help since I joined & look forward to being a long-term member :).

Yeah man, has me wondering half the time whether my suspension has crapped itself or not.. Took my Mum's brand new Kia for a drive to work one day.. It's definitely not my suspension, lol.

And yeah, will definitely be joining you guys in some of the upcoming meets. Checked out the photos on Facebook, looks like fun ;)

Adelaide has shit roads, horrible police officers and horrible modifications laws. -.o
Yeah, it's actually not bad. We all sit around and talk, get to know everyone, grab pictures and then head on a cruise. The cruise this month is to mt lofty. :)

The D Series engines aren't really that bad for performance. If you're going to keep it a street car, just invest your money into suspension and response, there's no need for BIG power when driving through the hills (if that's what you like doing anyway.) just a well balanced car. Make it breathe a little better with an intake of some sort (not just a pod) and slightly larger exhaust system headers through, doesn't have to be obnoxiously loud either.

If you want to go crazy with it, Bisimoto in the states does cams, cam gears etc. List is endless, those yanks are getting ridiculous power out of SOHC D-Series engines. Hell, a feature (not even cover car) in the latest Honda Tuning Magazine is making over 790hp on a D16.

Sounds like you have a good plan, the K20 in DC5Rs respond really well to mods! If not, you can always go with the DC2R, albeit slightly older, they are purely a drivers car, so much more so than the DC5R. Test drive both before you decide!

And welcome to OzHonda!

ha ha agree on the modification laws, well, the laws themselves are pretty much the same anywhere, its just how they are administered in SA that sucks, just so many grey areas and interpretation!

you guys should try living in Sydney for a couple of years with their roads! way worse than ours

oh, and welcome Ninja-TranceZiggy, see you at one of the meets!
