Hey all,

I have come to stage where the tct is playing up. some of you might have come across this problem and was wondering what to do/where to go.

I went to hanny's when the noise wasnt that bad (3weeks ago) and rob recommended changing all the oils. so I agreed. $400 BAM (including air filter $70). I couldn't notice the sound right after because the engine was cold but then as time went by the noise has gotten louder! Have called up rob in regards to this and he now recommends changing the the tct. $600. not cool.

There has been instances where people have replaced it but not long later the noise comes back.

Thoughts?

Changing the timing chain tensioner is no biggy. 10mm spanner, 6(IIRC)mm hex key and needle noise pliers. And a bit of elbow grease. And you can get the part for something like $150 from the US.

But that may not be where the noise is coming from. Maybe the valve clearances need adjusting, but if the above has you worried don't even try this.

Hey, but I work for scotch. Partial to single malts though.

There's a lot of discussion about TCTs on S2KI. This thread is a good DIY to reconditioning -

Some guys claimed they just used a wirebrush instead of sand-blasting (in other threads).

Aus will u assist for a turbo instal for a bo'le a scotch :P

Hope this link works for you J-K as I was logged in on my account, TCT cost $120 USD + shipping. IIRC, I got mine for just under $150 as Aus quoted. Also it's no headache putting it in yourself. There is a DIY just for replacement on S2ki, but not sure where I saved the link, so you'll have to research!
