Cracked Valve Spring Retainers?

There is a quite a lot of discussion on S2KI about cracked valve spring retainers and on some (rare) occasions, valves being dropped with disasterous results.

Having seen all this in the US forum, I've not seen anything other than a passing mention on Ozhonda.

Does anyone know if this has occurred in Australia? Or, are we just very careful drivers who never over-rev our beloved cars and avoid this kind of damage?

Or am I just a Honda hypochondriac who should stay away from Google & forums? :o

I have no personal experience with this but replaced mine with AP2 retainers when I rebuilt my engine.

Judging by the limited responses, it doesn't look like this has been too much of an issue in Australia. That's a good thing :-)

F series and K series have a major problem with this. My K series did this and i destroyed my head as a result. I swapped my Oem stuff out with super tech gear not long after i bought my s2000. Its annoying, but $600 is better then 4K+ for a new motor if in the event it lets go.

They ain't OEM. And the engine builder is a cross dresser.
