A waste of money

A piece of rubbish that shifts the vtec point, that Honda designed so well :)

Heaps of threads on vtec controllers though, do a search but IMO I wouldn't bother with a vtec controller

Control when vtec engages lol

Agreed. Honda already do it better.

+1 Would rep if I could
Detrimental piece of crap to the car. Any retailer that tries to sell you one is a bag of sh!t who just wants your money.
It causes unnecessary strain on the car.
Get an aftermarket ECU instead.

If he's talking about the VAFC then it also controls the air flow and fuel mixture. My car came with one already in it. I've never touched it, but it's mounted in such a good place so I never took it out haha.

I gained 10kw in the mid range and 5kw at 7000rpm.
Vtec cross over is now 4200 instead of 4900.
The apexi AFC neo is good value for money... It does the job if you have bolt on mods.

so if you buy aftermarket camshafts and adjustable cam gears and you dial in your camshaft and adjust your cam gears to 0.0 accordingly and you dyno the car to find that the extra duration on the small lobe has increased your mid range and you can achieve a better torque curve by engauging vtec at a higher rpm by means of a vtec controller or a vafc without goin to the expense of a stand alone think the mod not just fit it

IMO these things are pretty decent.
if you have a very economical engine and wish to suck the HP out, after changing ur air intake and exhaust, then you get one of these and a tune you can squeeze those bits out by running a richer mixture (closer to stoich). rather then getting a hole new ECU.

More things come into the equation of making power besides correct mixtures. E.g. timing advance cam angles. On a k20a. Plus good luck detecting those knocks. Why waste money on a half arsed approach ? When you can get an ecu and do everything at once?

its benefitial for ppl who dont want to go ALL out. a new ECU i imagine is pretty expensive and a apexi VAFC is like 300$ relatively nothing in comparison.
but agreed the ECU would be better.

slightly beneficial but a mistake if you ever decide to go further

Wow
Gaining that from a cheap vafc, imagine what can be gained from hondata
Prefer that sh*t

yeh the key is ignition timing, although air/fuel can be critical

ideally u want both but tehre is quite a price difference

thats true, by advancing the ignition timing you can achieve a good power output.

Yeah. The improved power and torque curves are great.. I disabled the tune the other week for a day. The car just didnt want to accelerate that quick, such as dropping back to 3rd or 2nd gear to overtake on motorways. I think it cost me about 500 installed and tuned...

we all know for big results and best results u need quality shit installed and tuned by the best in that particular field.
but what if ur not a baller and your pockets arent deep. as i stated before the benefit of the vtec controller in maximising the power from your camshaft mod, wich is all you want to do coz ur broke already.my one man workshop is building reputation because i deal with the job at hand, not ignore the benefits of a vtec controller because im focused on a bigger picture thats not in my customers budjet. my service is high standard not price and best bang for your buck not all bucks no bang like all the other failed vafc attempts coz u research sucks and it didnt match your application

timing advance will give you top end if u use that method and you will lose bottom end but gain power at a higher rev
but what if u set ur dizzy timing to 0 so u maintain bottom end and adjust centrifugal advance so your timing advances at an higher rpm so u gain at top end to
its in principle no idea on applying this to honda just an idea on research if it hasnt been tried
