unless its had an engine swap then no it doesnt, iirc ek4, ek9, ej8, em1 are the civics in that generation with vtec.

I'm pretty sure if a honda has "R" in it's badge it's got DOHC VTEC. VTIR, Type R, SiR

Just look under the hood, if it has 'VTEC' written on the rocker cover, then it's a _ _ _ _ , as simple as that.
To confirm this, look at the top of the engine block to find the code. Then google the code/wiki to see its details.

The D16y8 does not! Only way to tell is simple, Look at the engine code on the block or the vehicle rego or Vtec solenoid

Test drive the car, see if VTEC kicks in or not, (hoping the engine is in fully working order.)

had my mate jesse have a look at it, turns out my intake manifold has "i-vtec" according to the cover, i dragged my other mates rx7 and i almost had him but then when the "i-vtec" engaged in the intake manifold the floorpan came loose, sparks flying everywhere and shit. at the end of the race, her told me the dangers of "i-vtec" supposedly i was granny shifting and not double clutching like i should and that i fried all my piston rings now we have to strip the whole block apart. also got told im lucky i didnt blow the welds on my intake manifold due to this "i-vtec".
