Today we talk with Redbrick Racing team boss about the big trip down under and reveal a few exciting things about how this team plans to do UK proud on the world stage in August.

Superlap Australia: Hi Robin, how are things progressing for Team UK in the lead up to World Time Attack?

Robin Duxbury: With only a few weeks to go until the car and all its goodies get loaded into the container for its journey across the globe it is very busy here at Redbrick HQ making sure we have everything we need for our assault in World Time Attack 2012, we have planned for everything and will be bringing all we need for the challenge, in fact we have enough to build another car or two if required, we even have a complete spare set of Voltex racing bodywork and 3 engines of various specification fully built ready to go!!

SA: So we have seen some pics of you guys out testing recently, where have you been and what sort of improvements have you made?

RD: We started testing early on this year as it is important to have everything ready dialled in and to bring the very best we have to offer here in the UK, we have deliberately chosen circuits for testing that we believe to be close to Eastern Creek in terms of layout so that we can prepare the car set up in all areas from suspension, aero and mechanics. It has been great to working with companies like Cosworth, SuperPro, Milltek and Allisport in our preparations and they have helped tremendously in developing the car but most of all we have to say a huge thanks to Tracktive Solutions who with their world motorsport background have really made the difference over the last 6 months. We have seen good improvements in all areas of the car but most of all in the total parts working together as a complete package

SA: And I guess a team from the UK coming to compete at WTAC has been long overdue, how has the response been back in England and do you have many local companies supporting you to come down under?

RD: The support has been great and everywhere we go the first comments are to wish us well, companies over here have been really keen to help the team whether it be with the car itself or just to help in the preparations for the trip which has taken some organising, we have left nothing to chance even down to planning the team time in your local drinking establishments……

SA: And can you tell us who will do the driving at World Time Attack?

RD: We are very pleased to have Gareth Lloyd behind the wheel for Redbrick this year and although maybe an unknown to many internationally he is certainly a name here in Europe that has won at the very top level of motorsport including Le Man 24hrs and being the UK Time Attack champion 2010. He has been competing in big horsepower 4wd cars for many years and for those that know this sport this is something not to taken lightly. As an everyday test driver for Bentley, McLaren and Mercedes he certainly is very handy in giving the team feedback and is really excited about the challenge ahead, he even has his eye on the top 10 drivers list!

SA: And we have heard on the grapevine that you don’t mind getting behind the wheel yourself from time to time, tell us a bit about that?

RD: I certainly do like to get behind the wheel and in fact drove the car only this week to check that Gareth had made the improvements we all hoped for. I have spent most of my seat time in off road dessert challenges before a large accident put pay to the dreams of Dakar and beyond but I seemed to convert to circuit work quickly and also hold the odd lap record or two in UK Time Attack still now………

SA: And I guess most of the fans in Australia have only seen your car on the internet, tell us a bit about how you got into time attack racing

RD: Believe it or not we have only been competing at top level Time Attack for 3 years but have been involved in high end motorsport for over 10 years, our aim from the start was to build the very best European Mitsubishi Evo possible and although it always evolves we are very happy with the result so far but always know you have to keep fresh to stay ahead of the competition.

SA: And the UK Time Attack series has long been one of the best supported series worldwide, tell us a bit about how it has evolved over there.

RD: You are right that the UK series has been right at the top of Time Attack in terms of teams, cars and entrants and believe this will only get stronger and with this year’s field looking as one the most competitive it is great to see the series grow from its creation as GT Battle in 2005. Having worldwide sponsors back and support the series has helped bring tuners from across Europe which then feeds down to their customers all wanting to compete

SA: And you also ran in the European time attack series how was that?

RD: You are right that our first competitive event this year was a round of the European series at Circuit Zandvoort where although we did not run in the final session due to a gremlin late in the day our time in qualifying was over 7 secs quicker than the rest set all day in a very good line up of cars, even better news the time was a fair bit quicker than we had ever been before at this track which shows we are going in the right direction

SA: And also time attack is not the only sort of racing Redbrick does is it. Tell us about your other motorsport endeavours.

RD: Redbrick is a team that has started to spread its wings into other areas of top level motorsport and are currently competing in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) support series with Ginetta’s with great success and where over the next 18 months we plan to step up to the full BTCC series and compete at the pinnacle of British motorsport

SA: Well I can tell you that you guys will have a big legion of fans here cheering you on in August! See you at the Creek!

RD: We can’t wait to come over and see all the fans and be part of an epic event and be rest assured the UK are coming with a very serious assault at World Time Attack 2012!
