From what I've been told I think every S2000 made before mid-2002 could use the new 4 hole oil jet banjo bolts, especially if you're going FI.

If Honda spent a lot of money on this, and it's being used in every S2000 from mid 2002 then it must mean something.

It's easy to replace (for a pro), cheap ($55.50), and worth the effort.

hard top guys sell it - http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/product.php?productid=96&cat=53&page=1

BUT if a spazz tries to install them, they can literally turn your engine into a piece of junk (stripping the thread, not sealing the pan, etc)

While the pan is off, you may as well put in an oil pan baffle! These guys are selling them for $30 US each - http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/893840-trackforged-oil-pan-baffle/

Who in Melbourne can do this / has done this before? If anyone else wants to get this done then let me know...

Keep in mind the 4 hole oil jet bolts were only replaced as a TSB or whatever in Europe due to failures on the autobahn/autostrada. So prolonged high rev driving. It wasn't considered to be required in the US and Aus etc due to lower speed limits and shorter roads.

That said, I replaced mine. Cylinders 2 through 4 are easily accessible. 1 is a bitch. It's behind the oil pump. And it's a fine thread so you have to be careful.

You have to pull the sump, which involves changing the oil, but installing a baffle is still not a trivial exercise. You have to properly clean the sump of oil with degreaser including impregnated oil, before welding. And it's aluminium so MIG welding is required.

That said, I made and installed a baffle.

Haha that's awesome Aus. If you did it then that confirms it! But I agree, not everyone needs to replace theirs. It would still be better for any FI setup though right?

I was just looking at this a couple of days ago too. From the HardtopGuy, the freight for the bolts + HondaBond for the sump was an extra USD75 = USD143 delivered. I priced the bolts in Perth from a Honda dealership - $41ea with none in stock. Looks like it will be a Hardtop guy order to save $20 & get the Hondabond included.

The other thing I read is to use a 3/8" drive torque wrench as a 1/2" drive isn't accurate enough at the low end of it's range & you could mangle to the bolts, closing off the holes.

I'm not FI, but I have a 4.77 diff (= a leisurely 4,000rpm @ 100km/h). The European S2000s had this mod done by the dealers due to longer high speed / high RPM runs. I want to keep my S2000 for a few years more, so I figure the mod is good insurance.

Nice.. I completely agree. If a few of us get it done at the same time it will cost less and may be quicker.

Hmm, doubt it. It's the same amount of work no matter how many you do and each car takes up one workspace. No economies of scale at work here.

What I'd suggest is getting together and doing it yourselves with a beer and BBQ involved. And don't worry about drink driving. You're supposed to let the Honda bond cure for 24 hours before putting the oil back in.

Worthwhile mod for any engine that sees atleast some spirited driving :) Just don't order from Honda locally... Got quoted about $50 per bolt argh. Got all 4 plus a spare for the same from the US :p
