ok so i went to the drags last night. ran a 14.2, but 3/4 way down, the car was vibrating really bad so i backed off
when i got to the turn around point. i realised i had no drive, so i pulled oer nd saw gearbox oil every where
so i got towed back to the car park, where i expect to find a hole in the box, but! it was just the cv shaft popped out??
so i took wheel off and top control arm off and popped it back in, everything was sweet! so as i was driving it home it was vibrating really really bad at around 100-120km but if i crept up to that speed it was fine?
not sure whats going on.the cv shaft feels tight in the box so i am going to say the circlip is still intact on the shaft.
and there is no play up and down - side to side.
im leaning towards possible damage to the gearbox, unless im told other wise.
thanks guise!

cv will mostlikely have taken the damage...
try changing that complete drive shaft n go from there

It shouldn't be possible for the CV to pop out of the gearbox.
The retaining spring washer is a bitch of a thing to get out when you're doing a CV swap!
Besides there shouldn't be enough length in the CV to allow it to pop out when the steering knuckle is still bolted into both top and bottom ball joints.
Could you possibly have the incorrect CVs to start with? I know alot of Hondas do mix and match with slightly different lengths.

^^^ good info, ive had questions about the cv shafts that are in there for some time now, as the cv spline didnt come out very far of the wheel hub, so i think the drivers side is to short!
was assured they were fine, but after all this, and yu bringing it back to my attention. im certain they are wrong!
another update!
was driving home tonight took a sharp right at speed, felt like it popped out again, gearbox free spun ( revs and speedo went up, but car wasnt accelerating ) tomorrow will be ordering new shafts!

sounds like the circlip on the end of the drive shaft/s is/are stuffed. Replace that first....also make sure that the driveshaft is firmly CLUNKED into the diff housing. It should be quite flush against the diff seals

i had similar issue with my DA9 'bout 6 month's back. my box side engine mount bolt decided to unwind it's self. the shaft popped out. had to push the car down 3 levels of car park @ macquarie centre. i replaced the shaft several times till the shop i was dealing with got the right one. i couldn't understand why they got it wrong 3 time's considering it was "they" that built my engine/g-box combination. they were using a da9 right shaft with the b18cR 4.4 box, the da9 shaft was 10mm too short. i dont know what shaft is in it now, but all's been good since then.

It is impossible to have your CV fall out whilst the knuckle is connected to upper+lower control arms.
The circlip 'MIGHT' be stuffed, but that's not the whole issue.

I'd say this is the problem =)

impossible or not, wasnt in the box any more lol. hadnt come all the way out just simply popped out of the box, not hanging down.
have checked all mounts. there all fine, this was actually the first thing i checked.
i just think its the wrong shaft.

so i got around to playing with driveshafts today, pulled the one that was in the car apart, the grease inside the cup that goes into the gearbox was FULL of mettalic. the grease was like metallic gun metal grey. so i replaced those bearings with another set i had laying around. see how that goes :)

I had a similiar issue a few years back on the drivers side. The inner cup would pull out of the box. It was on an EG6.
What I worked out was somehow the shaft was moving too much and the spider bearings inside the inner cup were coming out too far (bearings had the plate also) and loosing it alignment on the guide inside the inner cup. The bearing would go back in at an angle and lodge in the cup. The next time the shaft had to move due to wheel movement etc, the shaft couldnt slide on the bearings in the cup and so would pull the cup of the box.
I never worked out what the route cause was but it put me out of a few rallies. I changed everythign I could but it would still happen.
I eventually got a large 5mm spacer and put it between the back of the hub and the CVJ and this moved the spider bearings 5mm deeper into the inner cup and it never came out again !!
Now I have a new problem. An EG6 rally car but a different one from the one before. I was in a rally and on a tight left hander I lost drive. Pulled in the see that the shaft and bearings had come all the way out of the cup on the passanger side.

It completely minced up the cup and bearings. Either the engine or shaft had to move by 20mm at least for the shaft to come all the way out of the cup. I have no ideas. I've looked at shaft lengths but its hard to work out what I should have as I have seen 2 double orange stripped shafts that are different lengths.
Any ideas much appriciated
