Hi, I always wondered what the airbox looking thing in the ED civics was, and can someone please shed some light on this. (the box at the end of the pipping)

I removed it and found there was nothing inside and thought it was supposedly some chamber to collect air but i'm not sure on this item which is included in the civic.

Regards

i think the item you are talking of , is a resonator.
The actual purpose of it AFAIK , is to reduce induction noise. Removing it , will not do any damage - just increase intake growl :)

ED doesnt have a resonater...... Is this the Black box up against the fire wall that say dual carby or something?... if it is..... thats ment to have a filter in it...

Ohhh I see. Are you reffering to the dual carbs civic?

Thanks Bennjamin.

ohhh not the box that says CV DUAL CARB, thats where the filter is. What i'm referring to is the box near the battery. its at the end near the entry of the house.

I have a d15b4 i think it is. sohc 1.5 litre, stock.

I'm saving up for a nice EG Si though hehe. I hope it'll be worth it.

Ahh ok, so its the one i circled blue, i though u might have been running airfilterless for all this time

(Hopefully my ED has moved on to a less stessful home :))

This is how much "resonating" piping i pulled outta my EG

(sorry i had to post that pic up again :))

lol, yeah thats the one aimre. I wished i had no airfilter, i ran without it for a test and geez the little 1.5 litre has some grunt and you can feel it push you back abit into your seat when it kicks in up in the revs.

would that be a resonator? and would removing it make much difference to the induction noise?

I considered removing mine last time I was in the engine bay, I took off a few nuts and bolts and crap but there was on right down near the bottom of the battery, so i gave up there cuz I had just squeezed the battery brace back over my new one (has those handle things that pop up, I left them up so it made it super hard, the batt is also huge :) ) I think it is infact a resonator, so removing it would make it a bit louder, it's on my list of things to do. I think this post needs more commas, so, here, is, a, few, more.

yeah much more induction noise..you hear alot of hissing
i've run without the intake arm and without the air filter
then i tried it without the intake arm and just the air filter
and also just the intake arm without the air filter.
currently running only the intake arm..i know it aint that good
because there's not much preventing potentially dangerous particles
from getting into the engine, but for a simple wank factor, it serves
quite well.

also with the stock setup, low end is much smoother than without
filterless setup, however, using no filter and just the intake arm seems
to give a bit more top end response? which is what i've felt anyways..

i took off the intake arm and res n all that jazz running on filter...didnt make squat of a difference besides engine space lols
