Hi i have a manual 87 accord.

Sometimes, when it's a wet day or after i have pressure cleaned the engine, when turning the steering wheel the steering becomes really jerky, like the power steering is cutting in and out.

Instead of the steering being nice and smooth, it becomes really hard to turn but can instantly become easier, then hard again, all within a matter of seconds. If this makes sense?

After pressure cleaning my engine it was really bad for half an hour or so, i couldn't drive the car until it dried out. Yesterday during Melbournes downpour it only happened once for a few seconds.

I think water must be getting in somewhere, any ideas?

Thanks,

Adam

Yeah, water is wetting the belt, and the belt is slipping.

Replace the belt.

That could explain why there is noise coming from the belts :P

How easy is it to change the belt?

Just doused the belts with water and the belt is definitely the problem

Jacked the car up to have a look underneath and noticed the front rhs steering rack boot is leaking. Had a look at the boot and there is a nice tear in it.

The fluid is very fine and look like power steering fluid. Thoughts?
