Hi all,

Thought this trolley jack deserved it's own thread!

Low profile, aluminium, twin piston, long pole, reaches full height in about 5 pumps.

Costco sell it for $164, some guy on ebay is buying them up from the NSW store and selling them on ebay here (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Low-Profile-Hydraulic-Floor-Trolley-Jack-Hand-Lift-1-5-Ton-1500-kg-Garage-NEW-/180729884143?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a14572def#ht_9053wt_1139) for about $240. Check out his ebay ad as it has some more pics!

Here are some pics:

The jack only has 1 hydraulic piston, just so you know....

looks like pretty good bargain buy....

1500kg right?

how heavy does it weigh?

Look at the back bottom photo above, it is twin piston.

Yes 1500kg.

The box is 24kg, less packaging, maybe 23kg jack + pole.

is this one or two pistons pushing up the jack?

That is one piston.

But each pump you do of the pole pushes 2 pistons

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/860/photo32jm.jpg

Which then pushes that large one. Got to love hydraulics :)

I think he means twin pump pistions which pump the single piston with fluid.

I prefer to slowly jack the car up, srs.

i'm too skinny & weak to utilise a jack that pushes to full height in 5 pumps.

the old jack i had would do it in 500 pumps, but i could do it with my pinky finger....

No, they stock it all the time at the same price afaik. Only thing to be careful of is that they sell out quickly, especially if the ebayer buys them out the same day they come in!

It's piss easy to pump since the lever is nearly 2 meters long. Shits over any other jack I've ever used. Besides the one's I used at TAFE which were like 30-40k lol

Got this as well, best jack for the price. Others on ebay for that price and even more are no name generic/chinese and look cheap.

Cheaper to go to Costco directly (if you can) as the jack there is only 150-160 from memory and yearly membership is only 60 ish. Ebay seller's 240 is also before shipping. She used to have it a lot cheaper though.

There is a photo on the costco membership card, the staff don't always check the photo when you walk in, but when you go to pay they do unless the staff member is having an 'off' day.

and you struggle unless you work fifo

some will argue that FIFO isnt much better.

sure you earn a higher wage, but a good chunk of it goes to ever increasing rent (up in the mines and in perth). best thing to stay afloat these days, is to become your own boss. work from home.

curtis265
21-11-2012, 01:21 PM
what's more income got to do with rent?

regardless of your salary you still pay the same rent - it's ultimately your choice where you live. You don't pay rent in the mines, you live in a camp provided by the client. because it's cheaper for them to provide it then for you to find accommodation and +10%

nooooooooooo way josé

someone's unaware

It depends on the arrangement you have, but the typical fifo worker will get accomodation, flights and food paid. Accommodation up there is ridiculous - think $4000/week in rent for the a sh*thole house cos fo the demand. Big guys like rio and BHP are paying that right now..

anywya i'm also looking at a decent jack, seems like those arcan ones are the way to go? What else to look for in a jack?

Was planning to buy the same one from recpo (pro-lift)

It seems like the Arcan has downsides too. It appears that the Arcan has small teeth on it and may slip away.

Here is a review:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G1DTDlNhqw

I'm not sure which to go for.
Arcan: About $90 more expensive and have small teeth
Pro-Lift: No pads, but the teeth looks bigger

The ek1 front jack point is flat and fear it might slip!

Just going off the review on youtube. Yeah it is a different model though, the 3.5T version I think.

Teeth on the jacking point where it lifts the car up (video shows it) not the handle-

But yeah, leaning towards buying the arcan jack soon..

Put two scissor jacks on each side raise them up til you can fit a normal jack from the front - problem solved

If your car is on a dead level surface most jacks should get underneath it. Otherwise what I used to do was just drive the car onto two little planks of wood then jack it up/down from there. Easier than triple handling with two scissor jacks.

Getting higher wage is great to have. Costco's CEO, in a move contrary to most merchants, says he would like to see the federal minimum wage (http://personalmoneynetwork.com/moneyblog/2013/03/12/costco-minimum-wage/) elevated to $10.10 an hour. That is even higher than the $9 an hour President Obama called for in his State of the Union address.

im thinking of extending out the garage to include a workshop. one where i will have air compressor, hoist/lift (hopefully), and some other bits and pieces.

i already have three phase power to the meter box, so no problem powering all those things.

as for the courtesy light, the site doesnt have legend, since its classed as acura in the usa :(

Just FYI if you are a member of Costco you can replace your arcan jack for free every time something goes wrong with it for as long as you are a member. So if it fails don't buy another just take it back to the service desk with the membership card you used to pay for it. Just FYI if you are a member of Costco you can replace your arcan jack for free every time something goes wrong with it for as long as you are a member. So if it fails don't buy another just take it back to the service desk with the membership card you used to pay for it. I took mine back simply because one of the two pistons wasn't working properly after a bit under a years time. They replaced it without asking questions lol.thats fantastic

Same issues my jack has been having lately. Works at times though... very temperamental. Pity I bought it using a friend's membership and he's no longer a member. :(

My old Supercheap one does something similar, don't use it for a while and have to pump it up and push it down 2-3 times to get it to lift anything, then it's OK for a while.

The other lesson here is don't buy one off a re-seller, how are you gonn'a get it exchanged or refunded

For you guys with bad pistons, do you use the jack to hold the weight of the car for more than a minute etc., i.e. for the duration of the task, be it 5 minutes or 1 hr etc.

I'm wondering if the piston dies because it is carrying the weight for a prolonged period rather than just jacking it up and then resting it on jack-stands as soon as ppossible, thus alleviating the stress from the hydraulic jack for greater longevity.

* Still waiting for Costco to restock these jacks!

My first one went bad after a good year - lots of holding weight for time - but it's always advised to get off the jack as quickly as possible. And once in a while back off the jack , pump a few times to get air and sediment out and past the seals - and firmly tighten then jack again

Hold up my engine (one mount was removed) for 3 days
Though when you're lifting your car and hear a massive crack and the jack wont go up - its a worrying sign lol

jus gonna shine in here... ive had my jack for over 1.5 yrs now... its been good, no signs of failure or wear, ive used it to hold up my dads hilux heaps of times, considering the 4x4 weights over 2 tonnes so its a sure sign the jack is very well built... Yes its recommended 1.5 tonnes, but proof they are a tough jack

dont think it will be over 2 ton when you jack it up, probably just over 1 ton
unless you jack up the whole car in one go lol

There must be quite a lot of warranty / swap over / refund jobs at Costco over this jack? How many of you actually had to bring back to Costco? Did you get it swapped over or get a refund?

I ended up getting this first as a stop gap solution while waiting a bit longer for the Arcan jack. Anyone else got something similar and what do you think of them?

You already have one scissor jack from factory, why would you need another?
It is not recommended to use them in place of an actual jack
maybe fine for changing a spare tire
But that is it

And you can get the same outcome by using an electric drill with a modified bit on the end (MCM has done a thing on this)

yiss, but this one's 12V!!

so you can leave it in the car on roadtrips and stuff... in which case you'd just use the normal scissor..

What's it matter which kinda jack u use to get your car up anyway,
so long as you can get it on stands, there's no problem

Jasemas
06-05-2014, 06:34 PM
But if you use the pinch wield to jack the car up with the scissor jack
Where you gonna place the jack stand? :S

if it's 12V then you can lift under the subframe and jack dat.

then turn the power on

please dont use a electric drill as if the bit slips, it will spin your wrist along with the drill.

a better solution would be to use an impact driver.

Your they are great, light and sturdy easy to transport. The seals seem to go after excessive use but I'm talking years. For the price you can't go wrong, although if you can get a kinchrome one etc it will be better as reflected in price.

NO TROLL THIS TIME. IN STOCK CROSS ROADS. $149. Just like Dougie mentioned.

Bought myself one. Swear quality feels alot better then SCA jacks. Still 5 pumps and it will raise to max.

Nice finish and feels solid. If your car can clear pack of winny blues 25 standing up. This jack will fit your stanced beast.

Also strong recommend to buy windscreen wipers, only 11 bucks for frame free good year ones. **Top buy**

I just bought one at Ringwood this afternoon, there was half a pallet left. Best to ring first if you want to go there to get one.

Note: This new style is 'steel/aluminium' and a bit different from the previous blue one.

This new one has a higher minium height and lower max height compared to the old one. However, it is rated at 1800kg compared to the old 1500kg.
