Hi All

Has been a while since i've sold mine. A friend of mine however is looking to buy one and is interested in this one. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/honda-s2000-1999-12681658?base=1216&vertical=Car&eapi=2&Page=4&sort=default&cr=52&__N=1246+1247+1252+1282+4294965322+4294964924+1216&silo=Stock&Range=Price%3AMin%2CMax~0.5

Anyone know anything about it?

i know it's ugly, but has come to an agreement that he will take his own stock wheels and leave the chromies behind for a better price on the car. i see the front fenders are a bit hit and we have brought him down on the price. just want to know if there is anything else we arent being told. i dont think it's worth going up to nsw for.

think about it this way:

I bought a convertible, still not getting enough action...I'll buy some hectic chromies!

do you really think someone like that is either:

A: a honda enthusiast that cares for their car?
B: a mature person that wanted something a little nicer than an mx-5.

all i can see is abused. I'd be suprised if there was any oil in it...

lol ALPS,. surely you would have learned from your previous mistakes, don't drag your friend into the same ditch as you did to yourself. Advise him to continue saving to save him from headaches. Everything mattatnoosa said sums it up - that car is trash.....and 20 inch bling bling chromies is always the first give away

Yeah, was the badge nicked because he parks it in a shit area? It could have damage all over. Doesn't look clean at all. And those wheels are the biggest giveaway you'll ever find that this guy doesn't care about his car.

Wait, you're the guy who took out a 30k loan to buy that other S2k, and poured stacks into it. Do your mate/brother/whoever a favour: Don't encourage them to make the same stupid mistake you did.

car we buy be purchased with cash and not a loan.. and put it this way. how could you ever know if a cosmetically looked after one worth 25k is not going to cause you hassle? what if there is something wrong with that, like there was with my one i bought for 23.5k which seemed ok on the outside and mechanically didn't seem bad, till shit hit the fan. what if you were to buy one for 15k which isn't cosmetically a1 or isn't mechanically a1 and something were to go wrong. that way you've spent less money buying it and you have money spare when shit does hit the fan.

yeh. aint going for it. just going to stick local. only reason i see to buy from interstate really would be if the car is an enthusiasts and am willing to pay a lot for it

Its just more of a risk buying a car like that i guess.. But heres the thing, you rather the car like that, than the owner putting on the stock rims and pretending that he never had 20'' rims on it. Because if he's lying about the rims, he is probably lying about other things.
So the truth is, it doesnt matter who it looks like drives the car, what wheels it has on it, what sticker or mods or anything like that. Do your tests, get the car looked at by a pro or even better would be a current owner of one. If your not careful enough you gonna fall in the trap.

would u guys recommend buying second hand from dealers? they claim the car goes through 100 points check etc etc but just how trustworthy are dealers?

At least that comes with some kind of warranty. And you have protection if the car has been in a accident and is stolen, which the dealer NEEDS to tell you about. You also have a cool off period (well you do in SA anyways)

Why are people so damn paranoid lol.
Get car inspected & paint thickness measured if you feel inclined.

Hell, I didn't even drive mine prior to buying cause my wrist was farked lol.

Should ask your friend to look at an MX-5 as an alternative

im on the hunt atm aswell and barely any good ones, i saw that but decided to stay clear im looking for one with lower Ks. Btw having huge 20s on it doesnt mean the car cud be a lemon, my mate bought his one couple years back with 20s on it, and i think just on 100ks or abit under. He had a proper check on it, took it to a panel beater for inspection etc and it came out fine, the cars on 150ks and its still going strong with just basic servicing etc =), if your ever skeptical just do a proper check, looks can always be decieving.

Mileage isn't nearly as important as log books/maintenance history. I've seen many cars with high kms in immaculate mechanical condition compared to the lemon sitting on only 60,000kms that's never been driven over 3000rpms

... I would much prefer that lemon.

Whys that?

When I say lemon I mean 60000kms yet there's oil leaks here, carbon deposits there and shit like that. You want that over the clean well maintained car with 100000+kms?

Trust me there are heaps of low kms never vteccd cars out there. Most of them are less mechanically a1 than the ones which have been vtec'd regularly

if its a car with 70k or so kms and has been regularly serviced would it not be better than a higher km car?

regularly serviced doesn't necessarily mean maturely driven

and by maturely i mean the occasional vtak.

My point is that low kms doesn't always mean It's been taken care of

obviously there are many other factors but in terms of both cars being similarly driven/taken care of is what i meant to say

marks dc2r has been to WTAC, so you know its been through some hard driving

it has 100000+kms on it. but you can tell how well its been looked after and maintained. driving hard and babying it are not mutually exlclusive.

id take that over any 60,000km daily driven dc2r ANY DAY

but yes if theyve been similarly taken care of than why not go for lower kms lol.
