Hey guys,

Currently looking at getting a new exhaust for my car, not for performance, just a little better sound, but hoping to not spend too much.

Current stock system is from cat, 1.5" mid pipe to resonator, then another 1.5" pipe to the muffler.
Was looking to get 2.25" or 2.5" piping made, how much can i expect to pay?.

Havent been able to find any pre made setups for D17a2, as im not 100% sure it shares the same exhaust setup with any other Civics, EM2 maybe? not sure as it might be longer then mine, can anyone confirm?

Any recommended setups? Any info would help :D

Where about's are you located.. It all depends on the exhaust shop do a bit of hunting around get some quotes and chose a workshop of your choice which you have heard good feedback about and based on your choice looking like an ideal place.

Can't really give you much information for 2.5" exhaust systems and smaller as I've only dealt with 3".

woah, imo go 2 or 2.25 inch catback. 2.5 is way to big. the D17 motors dont respond well to bolt on parts as its a eco motor, ive been there and done it all.

there aint much out there for the D17s in Australia, ur gonna have to look at Ebay stuff that comes from the US.

imo go to and exhaust place and get a custom catback , itll be cheaper.

as for header just get a cheap xforce header they do the job.

Im located in western suburbs of melbourne, check around a couple commercial business and they couldent really give me a quote, said could go to $1000, and take 2 weeks. thinking of going 2.25", as any bigger is just wasting, not exactly a performance engine or car, just want to remove the 1.5" piping and have a better sound :P.

if u want just a better sound, just change the muffler at the rear itll save u alot if ur not chasing power.

So 2" or 2.25 seems the way to go, found a couple cat backs in US for around 400-500 with postage, seems a little steep,
Considering its only for the sedan civic lx ex, would have to get it cut.
Would I Be expecting to pay more for custom piping made here?

I wouldnt go bigger then 2.25", I got my cat back exhaust made up for $500, that included install, resonator, muffler and tips but that was a 2.5" mandrel bent. Press bend was cheaper

$500 seems about reasonable, though i already have my own muffler, any shop suggestions for western suburbs?

There was a shop up in airport west near westfield shopping centre down one of the side streets which specialised in imports, Not too sure if there there or not but from what I've heard and been told they closed down. No harm in checking though..

Oh ok sounds good, will look into it, thanks :D

Also, with the whole muffler setup, does it matter what size inlet the muffler i have is?
say i wanted 2" or 2.25" piping, and i had a 2.5" muffler, connected either crimped or with some sort of converter/adaptor, can i expect anything negative? compared
to getting a muffler with the inlet the same as my piping?

It should be fine, as long as u dont get a smaller inlet,

eg . 2.5" piping and muffler inlet size 2.25"

If anything you want the same size (bigger is fine) so you dont put a restriction on the flow
