I've noticed on long and/or spirited drives the gear knob in my dc2r becomes quite warm. Is this normal? Or could it indicate deeper problems?
I realise fluid and metal components will get hot during use but I haven't noticed the gear knob getting hot in any other car I've driven. Albeit most of these didn't have metal gear knobs.
Running Honda mtf and no other gearbox issues.

It's because the gear knob and shifter sits directly above the exhaust system. There is heat transfer from this to your metal shift linkage and thus the gear knob.
I wouldn't worry too much.
Get a plastic/leather gear knob as it will reduce the heat felt.
That warm gear know will be your friend in winter.
I like a nice warn knob between my fingers during a nice cold day

I agree with Tai,
my hand would feel great with a nice warm knob is the best feeling.
Unfortunately it's shaft doesn't come in close contact with the exhaust system in my car.

Do you still have your heat shield on underneath?
Ben is right.

Yeah cheers Ben, puts my mind at ease. Now that I know there is nothing wrong, a warm knob won't bother me.
I ditched the heat shields when I upgraded to the jdm exhaust system so I guess that probably hasn't helped
Remove your handbrake surround and the shift boot and check the dust seal hasnt split or popped off, i had this a few years ago and the boot was split. Replaced it and no more hot knobs lol.
