hey guys i just sold my honda civic eg gl sedan last week and i am now in the process of saving up some cash to get a newer car. i was thinking of getting a integra or a civic coupe. but ive realised that the ej8's/ em1's are pretty rare to get here in SA and they are fairly expensive for me. i found 3 cars that i am mainly interested in and was thinking if you guys would help me out a bit here? just to clarify things that i am still new to cars.

i know it has an ugly body kit or front bumper on it.

How much have you got to spend?

And newer car by one year isnt really much different

Civics and Integras are a bit overpriced, especially if vtec models, you could get a newer Prelude for a more competitive price

that's an ej8 - rear tail lights, prefacelift (though you can get ej8 in facelift), d16

depends what you want, if u wanna nice daily car or are looking at future modifications...
if you are looking for a nice daily a-b car just get a EK gli civic (or the coupes you are looking at; get electrics etc and rear disc brakes) or gsi integra (if you are intent on staying with a Honda). I reckon if you are looking at modifying be cheaper long run to save for a dohc vtec; if you want to learn and teach yourself things then get a EK with a d16 (cheap/easy to replace/source parts and good opportunity to break and replace stuff yourself), can always sell it and move on.. (personally I say save for a prelude VTiR and enjoy it as a nice cruiser, cheaper than other DOHC VTEC coupes and still fun)

Whatever you pick get it checked first

well i sold my eg gl sedan for $3700 and with the tax money coming back i'll have something around 6-7k maybe? including the money if have saved up. im only a part time worker working 2-3 shifts a week cause im still in year 12. i have been looking at the vtir preludes as well but the only thing that i dont really llike about them is that they are a bit too big for me maybe? and plus 3 of my best mates each own a prelude as well. haha. i really like the integra and civic coupes but its still a puzzle for me. and also i thought all ej8's are sohc vtec? cheers guys

thanks guys. would really appreciate if you guys can help me out here. cheersWell on the one hand, the third one has only 16,000kms on it, but the first one has "No swapping during back to my own country", so it's a tough decision.

If it were me I'd go the VTiR or the GSI.

Civics are pretty slow without B-series engines (or K's), and IMO the Integra is such a better looking car with better features/parts. The GSI is generally an underrated car, looks nice, great interior, comfortable, quick enough. But for $7,000 neg I'd be going for the VTiR for the extra oomph.

yeah your right. em1's are pretty expensive for me. ive seen some for sale from 8k-12k depending on the condition and that is way out of my budget. well im looking at the vtir teg this weekend and hopefully everything goes well and i get to be the new owner!! :D thanks a lot guys.

i know! that was the first mistake i made when i bought my eg sedan. cause i really did not know anything back then and i assumed that all cars that were in the 90's were all fuel injected and i also did not inspect the car properly. it had a dual carb motor in it and ive read a lot on the d15b4 on this website saying that motor is pretty much crap unless u know what your doing and you have a lot of $$$.

Wouldn't really bother with a single cam TBH mate, since I own one atm.

I like Civics, sedans especially, but they're too gutless down low at 1.6L and SOHC.

i guess your right. i think im gonna go for the integra i guess. my d15b4 eg was pretty bad power wise. i honestly think that it was underpowered.

The D16 isn't any better, hardly notice the difference I'd think.

DOHC D16 is nicer to drive because it's less gutless down low, but I seriously think you're better off with the B18B2 or B18C2. If you buy a Civic make sure you buy one with a conversion already done lol.

is there much difference with the b18b2 and b18c2? have u ever like test drive both of them?? because i never had the chance to since one of my mates do own a gsi teg but its an auto and he is a stingy bastard and wouldnt let me take it for a spin. -.-

Driven the B18B2 many times, but haven't driven a B18C2 funnily enough lol.

B18B2 non-VTEC is a decent motor, underrated. Just suffers from longer gear ratios but is a good cruiser. B18C2 would surely have more balls.

Against an FTO?

Well I've had two occasions where an FTO owner and myself decided to see who could reach the speed limit first. CRX > FTO.

Yes I can confirm,Ive never seen any fto mivec beat any b18a/b/c

Not sure why coz on paper they appear to have decent power

Yeah but in reality I think they're a pretty average car. 2.0L is too small for 6cyl N/A.

Looks nice, good figures on paper, but not much else...

Looks nice, good figures on paper, but not much else...They beat a lot of competitors out in the looks department, though. Tegs and Celicas don't come close. Plus they're far less common, which adds to the allure.

I havent done it but i own a jdm front dc2 and stock dc2 vti-r, it requires weilding the rad support witch i dont have the skill to do so. otherwise rest is bolt on.
