Hi guys, just want to check that an eg with a b18 can run a manual steering rack? Just concerned it may have clearance issues. Thanks

If it is a manual rack for a eg I cant see why you would have any clearance issues

Errr just loop the power steering or swap it out for non-PS. then remove the pump, belt and bottle.

No b series eg comes without ps from the factory, B18 block is larger than b16 too, I just want to confirm there's no clearance issues.

How is the b18 block bigger than the b16 block ?
Correct me if wrong but no eg chassis in Australia ever came with a manual rack. Where will you be sourcing it ? You won't have any issues ...

B18C block is longer than an B16A block, however the rack is located so far away from the engine it will not get in the way.
by manual do you mean non power steering or Manual trans car. Never seen an EG wihout powersteering. If you mean manual trans v Auto trans you have no probs there either.

Steering rack is part of the subframe, and the b18 block is just a bit taller than the b16. Shouldn't be any problem.

Ok thanks guys, I believe some models of eg gl had no ps. This is based on browsing Carsales and checking out redbook. Had a talk to my suspension guy today hes adamant that the current breather setup I have (2 line from the rack going to a fuel filter, rack filled with fluid and can burp air out through filter but not ps fluid) isn't adequate and is still causing excess wear on the rack and making it stiff. If there is no such thing as a eg manual rack (by manual I mean car without ps) I'll have to look for another option. Maybe ed rack or somehow converting ps rack. Any suggestions?

You can take a ps rack apart - remove internal collar rings and that will make it a "manual rack".

So it can run without any fluid at all? Just remove collar rings and close up the lines?

Could this cause wear or undue strain on the tie rods or tie rod ends/cause slop in the steering after using it for a while?

I don't know much else sorry - its been done by a dude on hondatech.com - removing these guides removed most resistance in the rack, so fluid could freely move back and forth rather than have to circumvent the lines or internals
Of the rack gearbox. AFAIK.

Might have to give it a go I reckon

no AUDM ED civics came without p/s.
the way they mount is also completely different. Wouldn't be worth the hassle trying to mount on an eg

Does anybody know if there's a difference between say a dc2r rack or an eg breeze? If I'm going to buy one and convert it does it matter?

DC2R rack has a bigger turning circle but less turns lock to lock. Also fitted mine with new bushes. If you can spring for the DC2R's powersteering pump and powersteering hose as well you'll get the full experience. You can reuse your existing line and pump. If you want a Type R powersteering hose I got one.

I already got dc2r rack and b18c7, sound like it would be better to use compared with the eg rack as less turns lock to lock. Might have to bite the bullet and get it rebuilt. Any serial numbers or features to identify dc2r rack? Car 'apparently' had one put in before I bought it

why do you need to get it rebuilt? is it leaking badly?

It's got a slight leak, tie Rods/ends are gone too and I want to get the seals removed to 'properly' convert it to manual
