Hey guise.
My speedo is out by a about 15%, reading to fast.
I hear that replacing the Driven Gear for the cable (at the gearbox side is a good fix).

But lots of other forums have ppl bickering over whether the EG civic has a Cable or VSS.
My engine is from an auto SRi2 EK though, im not sure what gearbox im running however as mine is a manual in an EG shell.

so im not sure what to look for exactly.

still has an EG cluster though, so cable? connected to a b16a gearbox for an EG?

All EGs use vss. The ED civic era, integras etc had cable driven speedos

Are you running different diameter wheels or missmatched gearbox with speedo drive? 15% out is pretty bad

The car has a swapped out Engine but im not sure what gearbox its been mated to.

anyway to tell.

the Cluster is still standard, its like the engine was swapped out but everything is still the same.

how would i adjust the VSS and speedo in the car then.

also noticed that when i start the car the speedo needle jumps and points to roughly ~5km/h even though i havent driven off yet, and for the rest off the drive the needle wont drop down to the stop even when waiting at lights, its always elevated to roughly 5.

VSS cannot be adjusted.

something is definitely stuffed. either the vss unit or your actual cluster.. take a photo of the rear of the gearbox below the intake manifold and post the image up. then we can tell if its even got vss

no you don't need to get under the car. its actually better to take the pic from the top.

The vss looks like this... the unit on the RHS with the black plug connecter.

The mini guys that transplant Honda motors with VSS suggest using this:

I'm currently building a similar system on my E30's reed-style VSS which resides on the final drive to adjust the speedo as it's about 6% out.

ahh ok, well ill definatley look into that if buying a new VSS doesnt fix it for me.

but im more interested as to why its 15% off, i thought that it would be more plug n play.

im also not sure how linear the difference is. because when i turn the key to the (II) position the lights come on and the needle jumps to ~5km/h instead of sitting on the stop at the bottom.
it does this when im not moving.

the FSM troubleshooting manual shows the only two things which could be causing this is the VSS or the cluster main printed circuit board being damaged.

might be worth downloading an FSM, as it shows you how to test the VSS unit. but if you are not confident removing parts off the car then it doesn't really help

i dont mind removing bits
im not sure who did the conversion but the guy i got it off said he always had the problem too.
is it possible the vss has to wrong amount of teeth or something on the gear? or are they the same for all b series
