As some of you already know, I plan to install a set of fronts + amp. Just before I do buy the products I wanted to know if i have the skills to do it (First time DIY with sound systems). So today, I opened up the door trims and noticed possible problems.

Possible Problems
1. One of my screw won't budge (behind the door handle). I pressed firmly in, while gently turning it counterclockwise but it seems like the metal is weak and the screw driver can't get a good grip. I don't want to put too much force and attempts as the damage will continue to grow.

2. The correct way to mount the speaker is to have it on the metal door instead of the plastic trim right? But It seems like the window is blocking it + the magnet on the speaker driver wants to attached itself to the metal window rail. It seems like the hole I need to cut on the door trim keeps the speaker away from the window.

Not sure why, but there is some yellow fluid inside the speaker adapter as seen above (looks like oil?)

Some question to clarify the job I need to do:
1. How do I attach the speaker to the metal door above?
Would I need to buy something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6-1-2-6-5-165mm-MDF-Speaker-Spacers-16mm-Depth-/260674430630?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb16826a6

Screw the speaker to the MDF and glue it onto the metal door?
or
a very long screw to hold both speaker + drill into the metal..

the phillips head screw driver your using is too small thats why your stripping the screw.

i have already explained in your other thread that you mount a 6.5inch(diameter) 1 inch(depth) mdf spacer on the door by countersinking 3 screws through the mdf into the factory screw holes, then mount the speaker to that.

yellow fluid is probably dielectric grease

I don't quite understand.
What is countersinking?

From looking at your pictures (I'm no expert), it seems like you mounted your speaker to the metal of the door? right?

Then you placed the door trim over it (a modified door trim) and that is all?

The part I don't get is how the speaker stays on the metal door? eg) drill a hole in the metal door to hold spacer in place, then place speaker on spacer to secure it?

Speaker > Spacer -- > Metal Door and then the modified door trim plastic is placed over it when it is done..

Sorry if I misunderstood something, this is quite new to me and I would like to learn ..

I'm not entirely sure what he means by countersinking, but other than that, he means to screw an mdf spacer into the holes where the stock speaker attached, then screw the speaker onto that (as far as I'm aware) It'll give you the extra clearance you require..

Also, either way, you'll have to cut off the plug, unless you got some new splits that have the plug on them...

Countersinking the screw is when you drill out the top of the pilot hole with a drill bit the size of the screw head so the screw sits flush or under the surface of the wood.

I mounted the spacer to the door then mounted the speaker to the spacer.

the spacer stays on the door because you screw it too the door using the factory screw locations so no need to drill metal, the factory screw loctions im talking about are the 3 white things around the speaker hole on the metal door.

Got it!

So to keep it simple, countersinking means:
1. Drill a hole
2. Screw the screw into the hole

I understand now.

So:
1. Create holes to hold the speaker on the MDF (countersinking style)
2. Align spacer to the white factory holes and ensure it lines up with the speaker hole

Then cut out the custom door trim and place over mounted speaker!

Sounds fun ;)

yeh you basicly just want the screw below the surface of the wood so when you mount the speaker it will seal against the spacer, if you have the screws above the surface the speaker will not seal properly.

you may also need to trim the top edges of the spacer so you dont have to cut out too much plastic but this depends on how wide the spacers are, once its mounted you can line up the door panel and see where you need to trim. i didnt have to take much off my spacer.
