Hey Guys.
Just wondering if anyone has installed a 5.06 Fd over a 4.7? If so would you consider it to be worth it over the oem 4.7 unit and whats good or bad about the shorter final drive, all ur inputs would be appreciated

you'll get much better acceleration than the 4.7 but have a horribly high RPM for cruising on highways

Yea the high RPM's while cruising down the HWY can be a pain in the arse especially if you have a droney, loud exhaust and fuel consumption will be higher.
What car is this for? I know a guy with a DC5 who went 4.9FD and an Accord euro 6th gear set. So you get improved acceleration from 1-5 and retain 6th as a cruising gear.

Haha yeh ive been told its a pain in the ass with a loud exhaust, which is what i have. Its an eg k20 swap All boltons tuned at 155 atw. Not complaining with how it goes know, was just wondering would it be worth it for 600$? The 5.06 fd that is

It's worth the trade off if u value acceleration and don't value driveability

If you got a spare $3000, invest in a GEAR-X gearset to outright gearing!

wont be $600 if you include labour and fluid cost

I drove a dc5r. 5.1fd and 6th gear from accord euro... Its great!! The revs without the 6th gear is maybe 800rpm higher then normal... But te tax 6th fixes that!!

5.1fd ftw but then again, u got a k20 with a lighter shell than dc5.....

Yeh man i install myself and get fluids cheap from
Work. But just afraid its not gnr be worth it, feedback from
People who have driven a k with a 5.06 would be good thats all. Thanks reckless.

i cant see how it a bad thing? although you rev slightly higher on the free way, the gearing would supply more torque earlier with less throttle percentage and engine vacuum. just saying, due to driving my da9-b20v/4.4-r g/box, I decided to drive every where for 1 week, not shifting to 5th gear, and just relying on 4th. at the next fill up at the servo i only used 9.5L per hundred K's. in stead of my usual 11L per hundred. although while cruising my revs are higher. but my vacuum and throttle percentage are less. now Iv'e done this for the last 8 week's. i'm thinking of changing my final to a 4.9 or 5.1.

If u look on integra subforum... I have written my thoughts about driving 5.1fd and my stock 4.7

If u had a dc5r or sane weight and wheels/tyres with same rolling diamater i would reccomend it 100%, since its going into a lighter car with smaller rolling diamter.. I am unsure of the benefit.

Do u track ur car? When i go to wakefield, comming down the hill, ifelt my car was too hmmm twitchy in 3rd at redline. Alot of guys shortshift to 4th to keep car stable. I follow thia technique but find im out of the powerband and enter btec too slowly. With a stock drivetrain i really feel an upgraded final drive is the way ro go.

I havnt done a proper test but imo my dc5 with i/h/e/kpro felt slower than my mates dc5 with i/h/e/exedy stage 2, lightened flywheel n 5.1 fd!!

Oh sweet . So it would be a good upgrade, just was curious because i know the b series 4.4 vs 4.7 is a massive increase in acceleration, due the the k series having more power lower in the powerband, i was afraid it wouldnt make such a difference, but from what you all say acceleration will go up, fuel Consumption willgo down unless a euro 6th is installed.

if you understand how gears work, you will understand that a 4.4-4.7 in any engine will yield the same % increase in acceleration
