Was wondering where people had theirs mounted. At the moment mine's stuck in the sun visor where you stick those CD holder things.

Was also looking at possibly installing a button next to the VSA switch but wouldn't have any idea where to begin.

have a read of this

Let this be known at the “007 Garage Door Opener” mod.
Author: Michael Boyd

Materials needed:
-A momentary switch (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062508&cp=2032058.2032230.2032278&pg=2&allCount=68&fbn=Type%2FSPST&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FSPST&fbc=1&parentPage=family)
-Relatively small gauge wire
-Soldering iron w/ solder

Materials suggested:
-Heat shrink tubing
-A few small zip ties
-Drill w/ drill bit

1.) First of all, you’ll need to pull the panel from your car. It snaps in place, just pull it off.

2.) Take your garage door opener apart. The common one I used can be pried apart at the base of the unit using the clip that comes on it. Get the board out and take a good look at it. You need to locate the physical switch that you want replicated.

3.) As you can see, the “door opener” switch is the one all alone over to the side. Flip it over and you’ll see four solder points in which it’s mounted. The two closest to the side on mine aren’t connected to anything; they’re there only to help mount it. The two others are connected to the traces, and that little switch is the only thing keeping the two from connecting.

4.) What you need to do is solder one wire to one of those solder joints, and another wire to the other one. You can test it out by touching the ends of the wires together and the door should open/shut. (Make sure the battery is in place!) If it doesn’t work, check your work.

5.) Now you need to get that case assembled back together and route the two wires outside of it. I drilled a hole through the back of the case where that clip used to be, and crammed the wires out of it. You should have the case back together completely with the wires sticking out of it. Touch the wires together once more to make sure it’s still working and you didn’t knock anything loose..

6.) Next you need to drill the hole in the panel wherever you want the thing located. The switch I used (and supplied the link to) uses a ½” drill bit. Install the switch in place and screw the fastener on from behind.

7.) If you want to use the heat shrink tubing, slide it on the wires now. Next attach each wire to a prong on the back of the switch… doesn’t matter which one… just one a piece. Solder them in place and finish up your work with the heat shrink tubing if you want. Test it out. Zip tie the wires together if you'd like.

8.) Final step is to tape or glue the garage door opener device to the back of that panel. Install the panel back in your car and you’re done.

cool. might look for a place to put it in my car. and if i can get 12V from somewhere, then even better without having to deal with batteries

yeah. finding power on the legend might be abit of a hassle. but i read somewhere about tapping into the high beams/power mirrors.

now that is handy, but for guys like me who reverse park, im not sure flashing my neighbour's master bedroom is going to make me any friends :p

I do like the idea of flashing the high beams for opening the garage door, pretty james bondy.

Sensei you could tap your reverse lights. DUnno if that might hurt the garage door opener in the long run though having power supplied to it for extended periods of time

If you tapped into the reverse lights would the door automatically open when shifting from park to drive when you're getting ready to leave as well? That'd be pretty cool I reckon.

On my other car (Toyota Aristo) I have it in the CD holder strap on the visor and it figs snugly but on the Euro I find it a bit tight and it's definitely going to stretch the strap.

I did find that the remote happens to fit nicely in the little compartment for the ashtray though (next to the cigarette holder).

oh wait imagine if it had a different function if u hold the button down.. could be problematic if you did the reverse lights like that

another idea is the horn... but that's not a very good idea

Another place I was thinking could possibly be the area next to the map lights at the front where the bluetooth mic would go. But I still think the VSA/sunroof button panel would be best.

wouldnt that be an issue if everyone can flash and horn to open your garage?

they can't. you still retain the remote somewhere in the car

longers is correct, the remote's wired to your high beams, so you're activating the remove by flashing ur beams

im thinking of adding a switch somewhere that is accessable to the passenger as my garage orientation means i cannot get to the driver side with the door closed :p

time to look at potential hiding spots for the remote.

anyone know if the mirror is a good place to put a remote module, and a small micro button/switch?

ah... understand it now. I would prefer to just put a button somewhere specifically for the remote.
