Went for a drive to pick up a bit for the car today. I pulled over to do a uturn and as I take off again the rear suspension starts creaking alot. Like over every little bump. Does this sound like the suspension is carking it? I have lowered springs.

I'll jack it up and have a look on the weekend but just thought I'd see if anyone else who's had their's die had it start doing stuff like this.

Also, say they have or are dieing and I want to replace them with something that will last a bit longer with lowered springs. I'm not exactly rolling in money and if I could get away with it would only get new rears. Would this be dangerous or effect handling alot?

thanks

Might be your shocks.....stand on / in your boot and jump up n down and see if it still creaks.

Most likely its the LCA bushings (if DC2R where the rear tie bar ties up).

A little lube there and you're creaks gone :D

yeah when it started happening it was pretty bad so I stopped at a servo to check it out. It was creaking even with me lying underneath pulling down on the car. I'll try that euger thanks. I just thought it a bit wierd that it suddenly started happening. I drove to uni and back today and it seem to have settled down a bit. It dosnt' creak when I'm hopping in or our or jumping on the door sil. But still when I'm going over bumps and stuff. Thanks guys I hope it's just some bushings.

Could also be the swaybar mounts on the subframe :)

Yeah, it's likely to be a bushing somewhere...Just go down to Hanny's, he'll sort it out prett quick. May take 2 applications to get rid of it completely.... :)

In brisbane man. this magic place everyone speaks of dosn't exist here. :( does it?

Anyway. Had a look yesterday. Took the wheels off and jacked it up. I couldn't make the damn thing do the noise. Was pushing up on the suspension so much I nearly lifted the car off the stands and onto me. Which wouldn't have been pleasant. Just stuck some wd40 on all the bushings I could think of. Was the only stuff I had handy.

Apart from that some bits of bump stop fell out when I was squeezing around the shock. So they're probably not in the best of shape anyway. Noise has gone a little bit I think. See how it goes. I'm thinking maybe the bump stop has compressed and is rubbing. I dunno. Didn't have time to take the springs off. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I thought oil based lubricants like WD40 would destroy the rubber bushings? Isn't sillicon grease the propper stuff to use?

I have the Red rubber gease here and just wondering how do u apply them on the bushing? or the swaybar submount?
Do u spread the gease on the bushes or apply on gap between the bar and the mount?

apply the grease to where ever there is contact between the bushes and mounts / bar etc.

my em1 creaks on the right rear. i know my shocks are all good even with kings in them. what are the swaybar mounts on the subframe? and do i apply it like bennjamin said "where ever there is contact"?

swaybar is a round bar that runs between the lower control arms of each side. Not sure what the deal is with the EM1. On the eg the swaybar mounts in four places. Both lower control arms and the subframe in two places with u shaped brackets. Dunno if that helps. Just look for a bar running along under the back of the car and lube up anywhere it attaches.

did you change anything in your suspension b4 the noise came? like new springs?

I think the bushes of swaybar mount and on the lower control arms are making the noise because the creaking only happened when 1 side of the road is bumpy.
If there are anything wrong with the shocks and springs, it will have noise when going over a normal speed bump. But in my case, it has no creaking going over normal 20km/h speed bump at all.

soudns more like , that your springs are not held captive ( IE lowered) and when uneven road etc , they make horrible creaking noise as they are actually moving around. My car does the same....nothing too major to worry about tho.

but my car has OEM stocks and springs, just an upgrade to 17" with low-profile tyre to match the OEM overall wheels size...
