Hi guys,

Ive just had my 80,000km major service done today. Costing me a total of $911 including steering fluid + wiper blades + engine flush and other stuff.

He suggested that new fluid needs to be put into steering and transmission oil. I gave him the go ahead for the steering fluid, and he mentioned that there has also been an oil leak which he guessed it could be the transmission oil, which is why i didnt get it changed.

WHen i went to the workshop he suggested that i might need a transmission rebuild "thats why your car dosent change gears as well, feels a bit jerky" I totally disagreed with what he said. I reckon the transmission on my car is the fastest, tightest, smoothest gear changing car ive ever been in even up to now when i took the car for the service.

Transmission rebuilds are costly and cant believe it already needs a rebuild at 80,000kms when the car isnt even triptronic and never been thrashed. Should i be getting this rebuild or should i wait it out to see if my transmission fails. Just dont see why i need to pour large sums of money that seems to drive fine.. Or is this a way for mechanics to make money? Just like i dont think my steering fluid needed changing even though the steering was fine?

Any thoughts and opinions please share!

Thanks!

One owner?

Service history? Consistent? Same place each time?

Where did you get it serviced? Been there before? Do they seem legit?

Depending on those questions above, I'll give you an answer :-P

Your transmission should last at least 200,000km and even then the only thing that will need replacing is your clutch and its associated components.

Unless you are shifting badly and missing shifts a lot (which I doubt) it shouldn't be on its way out.

900 dollars is a rip off considering he probably didn't even replace your spark plugs (good for 100k kms)

BTw this is an automatic transmission.

I am the third 2nd owner, previous serviced by ultra tune, major service done at Honda.

damn, i even got ripped off by not getting spark plugs? The car still gets excelent fuel economy, may not need sparkplugs yet

If you do not trust what the mechanic in question has said, take it to a reputable transmission specialist to get them to diagnose for you. PM me if you need some places to go to

At 80,000 km it does not need a rebuild. It does need an auto trans fluid change.
