If your looking for better sound quality and bass I recommend on investing in an amp and maybe sub

6x9 are rear speaker size

With fronts I've got 6.5 inch but I think factory is 6inch (not sure with fronts)

Front: 6 inch should fit without modification as long as they are fairly shallow.

Rear: 6 x 9

I dunno about ek, but my eg had 4's up front (in a plastic surround, which when removed you could fit 6's, which apparently the higher models had) was pretty easy to chuck splits into.

My ek1 fits 6.5inch if i measured correctly. I measured from the left to right as seen in the picture (not sure if your suppose to stop at the dark grey area, or to the metal).

I've searched many places and it has mixed answers of 6 and 6.5.

Those stock speakers are Pioneer TS-06198ZH. I cannot find it in the manual but I mostly see it as a 6.5inch on various websites.

Hope this helps and keep us updated on your choice! :)

The basket on alot of the aftermarket 6.5 inch sperkers will not clear the door trim without it being modified.

Will the screw position be in the same place though? for stock and most aftermarket speakers

Not that ive seen, aftermarket usually has 4 screws (http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j480/tbmindustrys2/IMAG0479.jpg) evenly spaced not 3 like the picture you have shown.

Surely you could just put a thin mdf spacer in there, screw that to the stock holes, the screw the speaker to that?

just screw the 4 screws through the door plastic, if you dont overtighten the screws it should hold or you can use those backing things (http://www.cubefx.com/smart/speaker_13.jpg) they usualy supply with speakers
