I need to purchase a thermostat for my 97 ek civic(d16y4) but don't know whether I need the offset thermostat or the other one. (the repco guy told me this) -.-

Ask Honda at spare parts shop.

You will need the OEM Honda rubber seal anyway. The cheap ones from Repco/Bursons etc don't seal properly because they're a generic flat seal. Leaks coolant. The OEM Honda ones are thicker and have little raised sections that help you to identify at what rotational position the thermostat needs to sit in the housing.

Also, from experience, the OEM Honda thermostat appears to run a bit cooler than the Bursons generic.

Not worth the $20 you will save by buying generic IMO.

It is best to get genuine honda thermostat as they fail-open rather than fail-close. Meaning that when your thermostat fails, it will let coolant run rather than blocking it causing the car to overheat.

I replaced my thermostat awhile ago- it was $77 @ Honda. I personally wouldn't go for an aftermarket one.

Don't forget to get coolant aswell!

Get Tridon TT2040-192 - roughly $30.

It's the traditional 180 straight through thermostat with floating pin.
