hey guys, in new to this forum. Im going to be buying a civic probably between 92-95 and deciding which type to get. Ive read that the types of civic i should get are the Vti or Si versions.

Im finding it hard to find those types in my price range and was wondering how the performance of the eg is.

what is your price range?
are u looking for the hatch or sedan..
the vti and si both have similar power output. 96kw i believe.
also there are a couple discussion threads about vti vs si so you might wanna check that out.

Well, EG relates to the shape of civic from that time and is not actually a trim/engine level like Si/VTi.

Im not too familar with the EGs but not much separates the civic models. DOHC, VTEC etc dont make much difference when its a slow car to bein with.

The VTiR (i dont think exists in EG) is the only civic sold here which is remotely performance oriented.

An EG GLi will be in your price range. Just make sure you find one with low kms. The closer to 100,000 the better. It's not the most powerful car around, but it's a good car all the same.

If you tell us what you want in a car, we'll probably be able to guide you better.

its a first car, so im looking for something small, reliable and when i need a bit of power its there.... i mean i dont want a car that will be struggling up hills and stuff...

That would be a good first car, stormridah. You don't need a super car, but thats not at the other end other the scale (like charades and stuff) either.

Try and get a manual so you can keep it in the high revs and you wont have any problems with hills.

Just don't get something too weak..
You'll get bored of it quite easily..
As I did, so I got a conversion done =p

yeah i was looking at that before but i found out it has 200K's on the clock. I guess im pretty picky and i want something with lower K's

Im looking at something below 150K closer to 100

Thats why i mean its really hard to find one.

well based on your budget it is gonna be very hard for you to find one with such low kms, you have to consider the fact that it is now a 13 year old car if it is a 92 model and few cars of that age are gonna have that low kms. so considering that, a low km example is more than likely gonna comand a higher price.

i recommend if you wanna get a better model (vti, si) you save a little more money or if thats all you wanna spend just get a gli but in the end i reckon the extra money will be worth it because you'll probably regret not buying the better model later down the track.

well good luck with your car hunting anyway.

Low kms would be a priority for me. As a first car, I'd get a GLi with low kms over an Si with 200k on the clock. Because if and when you want a bit more power, you can still sell the thing. You're not going to sell a car with 250k on it.

Just my 2 cents. Have a look at carsales.com.au That's easily the best car advertising site. Try here...

a few posts back someone said the EG's ar neot performance oriented.. what a load of BS.

EG Si and Vti have wonderful engines, for the street you will be very happy...

My advice to you is be patient and find a good condition Vti or Si.

Im still looking for an si or vti hatch at the moment. I want to get the car by the end of the month

Whats the difference between the si and vti? The vti just has a vtech engine in it and can rev harder? I looked around but no real explanations, people just seem to favour the si
