Just got a 1996 EK civic and having the following problems:

1. I find the Civic (b16a2) hard to start, takes a but of cranking to start. Any ideas?

2. In order to pass the RWC test I need to put the standard airbox back in (came with a ram intake). Set it back up (swapped the IAT sensor from the ram intake to the stock air tube) and now it was very hard to start, wouldn't hold idle and was running so rich it smoked the garage out lol. Swapped back to the ram intake and it only just idled and still smoked like a chimney and wouldn't rev
I reset the ecu and tried again, made no difference. No CEL light on the dash is lit up either. What are the chances I've screwed the IAT sensor? Any other sensors that could cause this and the hard starting?

Thanks in advance, I'm a complete Honda noob hahaha

The IAT could be sending the ECU a false reading (most likely)
Could be your MAP sensor
Leaking injectors
Bad ignition coil

Got a 2nd hand IAT and made no difference, it's really annoying me :(

Battery went flat (left the door open) so it's on charge now, then I'll probably call a mechanic

Anyone know a decent one around the SE suburbs of Melbourne?

Check for spark when it won't start. That way you can rule out any ignition problem if you have spark.

Update:

Charged the battery, disconnected the Apexi vtec controller and she started first kick, CEL light is on though. The only diagnotic plug I can see is next to the ecu and it has 3 pins (light blue, white/red and brown).

theres another plug right next to it with 2 wires.
connect these two wires with a wire and then turn key on II. it'll show the cel code.
1 long beep is 10
1 short beep is 1

Cheers Mods for moving it to the correct forum :)

Pulled code 3 (map sensor) and 21 (vtec spool solenoid)
