If you want to fit in... chuck a 'DOHC VTEC' On the side of your car and de-badge to Honda

Yeah the late models seem to perform great but how long they last is another thing

Did you ever notice the small amount of 80s 90s and even early 00s peugeot and renaults there are around

Most of them are in wrecking yards or scrap metal now lol

Hey mate, really nice car you have there. One of my friends used to own an earlier model Clio Sport and it was fantastic! Right up there with dc2 type R and after having a spin I have to admit there were certain parts of it I liked even more. And for all of you commenting above, it is still going along very well after 170 000+km :) I know another bloke with a new Megane RS 250 and it is a lot of fun too.

What have you done to yours? I heard they don't respond to your mainstream bolt ons very well, and a lot of intake mods this side of itbs can actually make them lose power..

People have simply been taking the piss out of French cars. Renault are probably my favourite out of the three makes, but I'm just not a fan of any of them.

Whatever Renault have runs rings around whatever Honda has to offer at the moment.

Honda aint holding the FWD record at the Nring.
The frogs hold that record, faster than every NSX par the last of the NSX type-r's

All we get at Honda these days are hybrids.

Likelihood of a breakdown in 12 months: 52%
If you own a Renault, it is more likely to go wrong than not to go wrong. The only positive is that if or when it does fail, the cost of fixing it is a relatively affordable £137.

THE Renault Megane was named the most unreliable popular used car yesterday.

I don't have a "boner" over euro's. But I give credit where it's due. They did make a hell of a fast fwd car, and they are continuing to make sports cars. Something that Honda should be bloody doing, instead we got Earthdreams.

This isn't about the frogs, this is about Honda

The Frogs didn't setup a factory in Thailand
The Frogs doesn't have 5 mil + auto-transmission recalls over what was a 30yo outdated transmission design
The Frogs didn't quit F1

Some how the surrender monkeys are more interesting than the VTEC company.
What pisses me of more is that they know they CAN do it, and they even have the tech (next gen Advanced-VTEC was shelved for SIX YEARS), but they decided to go Toyota, now even the Toyota is making the 86.... Its been over 20 years since the B came out. How things have changed.
/end rant

Guess what I'm trying to say was... give Honda's current lineup, we really aren't in a position to judge and criticize.

Besides I didn't mention anything about reliability, but id rather a frog than a rotary. Guess there's a bit of that "Alfa" type in me.

Fredoops, I think what you're trying to say is:

Reliability = Honda > Renault, Alfa, etc
Excitement = Just about everyone else > Honda.

Kind of true. I love the Clio. I love a lot of the Renault line up. But I couldn't own one (I'd own one if I was super baller and could have a bunch of cars that I could change between whenever I felt like it, or when the Frenchie is in the work shop). Guess we're stuck here in our Honda's, fapping away at the Frenchie, while TarmacTerrorist is banging away at his (that is, until he catches something itchy and has to spend hundreds fixing it).

What about RWD french cars? This is the only one that comes to mind:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Clio_V6_Renault_Sport

It's also one of the less-ugly French cars around, as I said to the OP. It still looks tacky, though, like you buy it pre-riced. In general, modern French cars are just... ugly. Something about the styling is always off. People may call Honda boring, nowadays, which is true. But at least they aren't this ugly.

I just saw this and wow most of you guys are so biased. Its unbeliavable!
No offence but...
For the past few decades Renault Sport has been making one of the best and if not the best hot hatches and thats proven. Renault 5 Turbo?? Where was Honda at that time?
Megane R26.R beat the FWD record around the ring few years ago and now the newer model RS265 smashed it.
And dont start with the realibility bull... a car will treat you right if YOU treat it right.
Surely they dont make the best looking cars but neither are the current shape Honda's. Just like you we all learn to love them at the end of the day :)

Dont get me wrong though, I love Type R's. Have a lot of respect for them. Have driven a couple s2000's and Dc2R's and the things i have read about them were all true :)

I disagree. Are you suggesting that people who buy french cars generally don't look after them as well? I think not.

It's to do with design flaws.

My dad's car for example has a coolant hose that comes too close enough to the block. Known to fry itself and spit coolant. Learned this the hard way. The water bottle also shat itself because the material brittles over time (it's only 10 years). Are you suggesting that every car owner needs to spend their time proactively looking for common faults and undergo preventative maintenance regularly?

IMO if you have to do that then it's no longer a reliable car

dont know what these fanboys are talking about. Renault engineering is quite good, they had some good ideas! The engines might be rubbish but suspension and handling wise they do quite well. Like how in the 1960's reno 5 they put the front wheels/steering rack after the engine.

But cam wigets haven been around for decades before VTEC. Pretty sure it was an Italian invention by either fiat or Alfa Romeo.

Honda was the first to commercially offer hybrids tho. HYBIRDS.
