Finally invested in a torque wrench.. long over due... anyway looking at the TSX service manual, here are some of the more common torque specs:

wheel lug nuts 108 Nm
engine oil drain bolt 44 Nm
engine Oil filter 12 Nm
ATF drain bolt 49Nm

Cheers for that mate
Maybe we can make a list of everything that should be torqued to spec
by the way
Is your torque wrench a 3/8" or 1/2" drive?
3/8" Focus on the lower down the rating torque
1/2" Is higher up on the torque

Just curious does the size of the wrench matter? lets say a 3/8" and 1/2" is both are showing 50nm will it matter which one i use? (only have a 1/2" torque, and i have no way of telling if its accurate)

Of course it doesn't matter! A ruler still measures the same distance on a mountain as it does at the bottom of the sea...

a basic sidchrome/kinchrome one should be ok for the backyard DIY'er. ive got a snap on because i dont trust the taiwanese with precision tools.

If you bought yours prior to 1990 then it's an AU made tool. Otherwise they're made in Taiwan now.

didnt know they shifted production over to taiwan that early in 1990. somehow i had a feeling that they were shifted over to taiwan in the last 10yrs or so.

Friggin sucks, because your still paying a decent dollar for a taiwanese tool now...

just feels better knowing it's from your own backyard

time to find someone who does snap on for a decent price, amazon doesnt seem to like shipping them to oz.

or look for a decent quality japanese/german one, that isnt too expensive.

The drive size matters in the fact that a 1/2" one will have a higher torque range (say 50-500 Nm), whereas a 3/8" one would be 30-300 Nm, letting you work on bolts with lower torque specs. We also use 1/4" torque wrenches for 2-20 Nm, which is just about right for your rocker cover nuts.

so that is what they meant by having different sizes. not so much the tension, but rather the range that it can be torqued at. damn. means i have to buy more tools if i want to follow the workshop manual religiously.

That's right. For a cheap and reasonable 1/4" torque wrench, look at online stores for push bikes. Torpedo7.com.au sometimes has their 1/4" torque wrench on sale for very cheap.

http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7TOWN0WS/title/torpedo7-1-4-inch-drive-torque-wrench-set for $50 (not sure about shipping). puts it about $20 shy of the kincrome one from bunnings.
