So as the title says my car is shooting black soot on cold startup.

My carbon canister is not hooked up is it that? Also I get the feeling my car is running too rich..

Any ideas?

its unburnt fuel from poor combustion, the car does not use 02 sensor on start up till it is warm and also the CAT does not work to full efficiency until the car is warm too.. It's when it's blue you should worry.

What is causing the poor combustion. It's to the point that it stains the driveway it starts on

Any vaccum Leak, or a vaccum hose is leaking or not hooked well
Before u start the car next time, take a spark out and see if u have any Oil or Fuel inside the cylinder

Cold start need more fuel when it's warm up it work well.

It's got 180 on it. Ye mechanic did compression test on install. All good.

What else might need changing it is pretty high mileage and eats oil with no leaks

Tell ur mechanic to do Leakdown for the engine. 180 is good
if it burn oil possibly Rings are gone, Just saying, ur problem could be just so simple.

Do this & you should be fine..

Possible causes:
Fuel injectors may be leaking.
The Fix: Replace fuel injectors.
You may have a dirty air filter: Replace the air filter.
There may be some other type of ignition problem.
The Fix: Check distributor cap and rotor. Ignition module may be bad.

do what he said,
and do what i told you, before u start the car, take a spark out and see is any fuel in the cylinder before u replace any thing. I reckon u changed fuel filter/ air filter when u have done the swap.

^^ simple way to check if your injectors are working properly is get a long flat blade (or long rod), place one end on the injector, and other end to your ear to listen for consistent clicking. Do this for all of them. If you hear irregular clicks, the injector solenoid is either sticking or shot. You can probably try clean it out or just replace.

I got an injen pipe. Can u clean the pod?

Possibly injectors how much is it for bigger ones?

Are you talking about piston rings?

Dizzy was replaced just before the motor was salvaged from the smashed dc2

You do not need bigger injectors unless you go turbo/all Motor engine. other wise stick to same injectors.

Don't replace anything unless you are 99% sure it's the problem. Too many people go buying new parts on the suspicion that they may be bad.
To be honest, I wouldn't even worry about the smoke. As long as it's only on startup, it doesn't indicate anything too sinister.
