Hey, bought a 5L bottle of penrite HPR 5 5w40 today, just wanted to know if I can use it in my 06 CL9, thought it was fine due to reading up on arongg's posts about the motul oil, but couldn't source it. Will this oil be fine to use or is it way to thin? Thanks!

it's perfectly fine. 0w-30 to 10w-40 is within the recommended ranges for Hondas.

^^^ it's not too thin, Xw-40 is about as thick as you are allowed to go according to the manual

I will be switching my new CU2 MY13 to Mobil 1 EP 5-30W Full Syn at my next Service (10k).
Was told that going full syn at 1K isn't too good unless you have fully broken in the engine. Was going to do it myself at 5K but got lazy, so figured i'd just do it at 10k which is in a month or 2.

not sure how much the mobil1 is going to be but do check out the redline thread (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?163280-CU2-CL9-Redline-5w30-from-Amazon)

TO be honest the Mobil Extended performance is probably going to outlast the redline. they cost about the same tho

PS: HPR 5 is group3 synthetic anyway, good cheap oil

Ain't the redline rated good for 15000 miles? What's Mobil Extended rated?

Mobil 1 EP is also rated for 15000miles
You wouldn't really use your oil for 15k miles anyway.

I usually make it a habit to change it every 6200miles or so (10k) or every 1 year depending on which one first.

Some people even go into the habit of changing theirs every 5000km or half year.

10k/1year is a good interval

Depends on car and oil. Most Euro cars have a 15/20k interval anyway. Also depends on your type of driving. It's because the Euro cars are designed for a lot of fwy driving, thus less stress per km travelled as compared to Japanese cars where the whole county is mainly city type driving. That and dealers tend to use cheap oils (e.g Magnatec) while Euro use proper synthetic stuff with longer rated lives.
