I've been a member for ages but not overly active. Don't want to be giving rubbish advise as I'm no mechanic and basically read a lot on here to learn what the heck I am doing.

I have a Gen 2 CRX and am currently dropping in a B18c2 from a VTi-R teg. I'd like to cast your memories back to 2008 though, as the teg was sold on here then and travelled through a few hands before it ended up with me. I'm trying to find out a bit of the history of the motor to see what condition it is in and all of that because me looking at it doesn't tell me too much and I'm trying to avoid mechanics both for cost and because I often doubt they know what they are doing either.

Does anyone know who on here used to own this car before this happened.....

It has a Spoon Sports sticker on the rear hatch, replica recaro seats and not much else stands out on it. I believe it is from NSW. Victoria at a stretch.

if it still starts and runs. or even just winds over. go to your local auto parts store and grab yourself a compression tester.
the result of compression test will tell you more about the state of the motor than any previous owner could..

If the car was sold by someone on here in 2008, that was along time ago. In 4 years it could have been neglected, never serviced and thrashed. So even if it was in pristine condition in 2008, it could now be stuffed.

Agree with menacer, if it runs get it compression/leak-down tested

Oh n if it doesnt wind over, your best bet would be to rebuild it.. not the cheapest thing to do but better than having to pull the motor back out in a few months time to do it then...

The motor is out of the car now so getting it to run is going to be difficult. I took it out of the car so the motor has been in that wrecked car since 2008. I know the guy I got it off drove it a couple of times but had pulled the dash (and ignition) apart before I got it. The motor wouldn't have been trashed since, but wouldn't have turned over for a few years either.

The thread I found about this car being bought off OzHonda in 2008 mentioned that the engine only had 40,000 k's on it and I was curious as to whether it had recently been rebuilt which is why I am curious as to it's origin. The odometer has 222,000 so not sure why the new owner would say he was told it only had 40

My problem is I'm not sure how to look at the internals and tell if they are worn or need work etc. Only if it is running poorly I can trouble shoot. I want it running well when it goes in but don't want to spend a ton of cash I don't need to if it was rebuilt only a few thou k's ago.
