I have a '00 Civic CXi wif tha D16Y4 engine. Im thinking of either putting the d16y8 engine in, or just swapping the original head over for the y8 VTEC head. Has n e 1 done this b4? Is it possible to do? Im not wanting a B16A or B16B yet, as im trying to extract as much power possible out of the engine i have!! Thanks for your help

damn, and here i was hoping there was a link to a video in this thread.

I'm making a few assumptions but i beleve the head swap would be easy. also you should be able to get a whole d16y8(sohc vtec) or d16a8(dohc non vtec) (both make approximately the same power) for about $800 or so. you will probably find several for sale if you look in the market place.

it is possible to extract power from the sohc, it depends on your budget....

i totally agree.

If you want turbo applications it costs a lot of money unless you can DIY. As for the d16y8 engine transplant and swapping the original head over for the y8 VTEC head. dont even bother. Its a waste of money, sorry. Be patient and save for the B16A transplant and or Turbo applications.

Save up for mods on your next car instead? Seriously I don't know why you would bother with a mini-me if you are only keeping it for a few months

To my knowledge your cxi d16y4 engine makes 88Kw and the vti d16y8 engine makes 95Kw. Thats only 7Kw and in my opinion I don't think it's worth the money.

Basically you could spend a fortune on a d-series to bring it up to par with a b16a's power. Or for the same price you could just put a b16a in there, which allows for even more modifications later on for some serious HP.

Trust me im in the same situation, wanting to get mass power from my d-series, although in the end i came to this conclusion.

going from d series non vtec to d series sohc vtec is really pointless in my opinion.
the sohc vtec isnt really the "vtec" that people are after.
as other people have been saying easiest way to get power out of the d series is turbo.
otherwise your wasting time and money for no real power increase.
