Anyone know anything about this ek4?
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/st-johns-park/cars/honda-civic-vtir-ek4/1006700480

Other then the f#!@kd coil overs at the rear, the car doesnt bother me and it looks nice :), What are some main issues in a ek4 that i should really pay attention too?

pretty pricey man.

id go get a cxi for 3gran then drop a b18c7 motor in for 6 fitted.

ur car will be heaps lighter and go way harder.

honbits fit and supply the motor for 6gran.

M8 with most swaps now needing an engineers cert buying an ek4 might not be such a bad idea if you can't afford a dc2r

Hellomotog
24-09-2012, 01:15 AM
why would you need an engineers cert? if you are increasing within 15% of engine capacity.

i.e 1.6 > 1.8 L

eeko

Lol... id always prefer a better base to start off with, swap or not...

Love my cxi. Throw that abs in the bin 40-50kg of useless brake lines and extra metal

I got power windows and Ac. Who cares about power mirrors u only adjust them once anyway. Sunroof is a great way to throw your centre of gravity out the window ahah

24-09-2012, 02:12 PM
Sorry bro but not everyone wants a full track spec racer... i like cruising with a bit of fun here and there and find a sunroof indispensable... if someone isnt even going to track their car whats the point?

just sayin....

Hellomotog
24-09-2012, 07:04 PM
Will definitely be tracking it. It's a drivers car..

How's does this make sense? You end up spending way more
Buying a cxi = 3-4k
Putting in a b18c7 = 6k
Then you'll have to up grade the brakes cause there rubbish in a cxi having rear drums and small as front brakes
At that rate you mighty aswell buy a type r and be happy with it

Hellomotog
24-09-2012, 07:20 PM
Ek9 please find me one for less than 20

As stated above, its not just displacement, its also power. D16, comes with 96 KW (on paper) B16, 117KW, you'll need to get your engine and brakes engineered to the vehicle.

When was the last time your tried to register an engine swap with the RTA m8? Laws have recently changed, you can't even go from d16y1 to b16 without engineers cert, unlike before you can't simply get blue slip and update engine number with RTA

as long as the mechanic dosnt call the rta to ask and the rta dosnt look at it cause there too busy it usually turns out ok..... but the change of law still stands and better off not taking the risk imo

Tuh, Goodluck with that. RTA is never too busy to see a red notification come up stating the engine number does not match the vehicle. Or, this vehicle requires VSCCS Cert.

Laws changed 31st Jan, 2011. You've ALWAYS been required the get the car engineered for ANY modifications, but no one did it. The RMS/RTA has now cracked down HARD on this sort of stuff.

Just buy an ek4, dc2r or whatever.

Saves you the hassle of labour cost, parts and all the headache lol

aurnob88

This can be quite true as you never know how the transplant was done and level of skill used. Can be problems with wiring and elwxtricals typically .

Agreed with cuppa. The money you spend on a swap that can get you a dc2r or close to one!

oh ic... could i ask what parts of your engine was worn?

when i first did the swap changed clutch, water pump, timing belt about 1 grand in parts. then after about a week started smoking piston rings were gone. when u do an engine swap u never really know the health unless u can drive it first take it apart test it out. so after all that i had to a full rebuild on my engine which cost me 3 grand so yeh not worth it in my opinion
